New Orleans in December?

I've only traveled down there in the spring, however i'm looking at setting a date the weekend after christmas since it will be a completely OTT wedding makes it easier for my guests to travel as well as us since we are a military couple. Originally it was going to be in May but my sister is graduating so I do not want to steal her thunder!!

Is the weather completely unbearable then? I am worried about it being too cold for picture taking. Plus I wanted an outdoor ceremony, however I am sure that can be fixed with space heaters.

Any other advice yall might have on a december wedding would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Re: New Orleans in December?

  • It will pretty much be warmer in temperature than Arkansas, but the humidity can cut like a knife.  33 degrees and 95% humidity will go through some of the best of clothes.  Bring clothes that stop the wind, and you will be fine.  I have heard rough tough iron workers from up north say this was the coldest they have ever been. But it might be 70 degrees!
  • This past year for Christmas it was a little nippy...well whats nippy to us is nothing to people that live up north. Sometimes December is hit or miss for us. One year we had on flip flops and shorts for Christmas. Living here I have noticed that when we have an active hurricane season it gets cold here in the winter time. Everytime a hurricane made landfall here it snowed in December. In 05 we had Katrina and Rita it snowed for Christmas. In 08 we had Gustav and Ike hit Houston and it snowed in December. We have the funniest weather here. Hope this helps...I live about 45 minutes away from New Orleans...
