After reading lots of advice from other brides and also chatting with my MOH/best friend, I've realized I really want a DOC. FI doesn't think it's necessary ("one of our family members/friends can do it") and doesn't understand that our friends and family members should be allowed to enjoy the day without chasing people around. He also thinks our planning is going to be so spot-on that we won't need a DOC (silly FI, not understanding all the behind-the-scenes stuff...).
Talking to one of my colleagues/mentors last weekend about the wedding, he suggested I ask one of my more-mature students (I work at a college) or a recent grad that I've witnessed planning/coordinating events. There are a small number of soon-to-be graduating students I'm close to that will be invited, but I want them to have fun and not have to "work" the event. There are a few students that will be seniors during the wedding, but I'd decided a while ago that none of the current students would be invited.
Suggestions on people to ask and/or ways to approach a DOC? Especially my student affairs friends - would you ask a student to serve in that role (I'd pay for their hotel room, meals, travel, etc.)?
