second line at same venue?

I am planning on having both the ceremony and reception at the same venue.  I think it would be fun to have a second line but most folks are talking about having it from the ceremony to the reception.  How do people do this if only at one venue?
My sister plays the trumpet so I think I will have her lead it without a full band

I had both my ceremony and reception at the same place and did the second line at the end of the wedding.  I know some brides do it in between the ceremony and reception to give them time to change over the space for the reception.

You'll still need to pay for a permit, even if you don't hire a brass band.
  • What is your venue? You can parade around the venue or around the room and I believe not need a permit. Once you step onto city streets is when the permit comes into play.

We are still working on that.  I was thinking of just having it around the room if we have to but outside would be cooler

  • At many parties growing up, the second line was reserved until the very end of the night when it's time to go home and the second line band (or dj) would play the second line music and everyone would pick up the nearest napkin and second line in the place. It's a blast. So, it doesn't have to involve going down the street, and that would save you from getting a permit.
  • Sorry. To clarify you don't need a permit if you second line indoors.  I thought you meant outside on the street.
  • our ceremony and recpetion are at the same place. After the ceremony we've hired a band (Kinfolk Brass Band) to do a second line around a few blocks, and then come back and play the rest of our cocktail hour. Then we'll all go inside and enjoy the DJ, and the air conditioning! ;)
