Ceremony in City Park

I am currently planning my ceremony in city park and could use any helpful information that anyone could provide.  I'm going for a small (approx 25 guests), small budget, very simple ceremony.  I am interested in learning any info on the Peristyle or even just having the ceremony on one of the bridges or under a tree. Any info would be greatly appreciated...

I am having my ceremony in City Park at the Popp Bandstand. It would actually be perfect for you. It is between the Peristyle and Parkview Terrace and is $200 to rent. The Peristyle is beautiful but I passed on it because it was $700 to rent and I felt that it was too large for my ceremony. I would call City Park and ask about other locations though. I think you can have a ceremony at the azalea garden. I bet that would be beautiful!

I was under the impression that the Popp Fountain was closed for renovations? Is the Popp Bandstand in a different location?  And do you know if there is a charge for the gardens?  I have emailed city park and tried to reach someone by phone and have just gotten frustrated b/c nobody has been very helpful.  I keep getting transferred from one person to another and that person never seems to be available. Thanks for the help!

We looked at City Park and although others have raved about them we were disappointed that the lady who was supposed to meet with us was an hour late without calling me even though she had my number, and they weren't willing to be flexible with their menu package to fit our budget.  Although we've been to a reception at the largest venue there and it was lovely.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

I had to hound her down for our appointment also. And then, when we went to look at the reception space, there was a meeting inside and we could not go in to see it. She made me peek through an outside window.

The Popp fountain IS under renovation. I don't recall the date it is supposed to be done. It sounded like the space would be for a very large wedding, and I would not commit to something I couldn't see.

I finally got in touch with someone at City Park who states that the Peristyle is the only area they rent out for just a ceremony, all other areas like the gardens or the Popp Fountain/Bandstand must be rented in conjunction with having a reception on the grounds.  There is no fee for having a ceremony on the grounds under a tree or at one of the bridges and no chairs or setup is allowed if you do it that way.  They do not charge a fee for photography, unless you want photos taken in the gardens and that requires a $50 photography fee.  This is just info that I thought I would pass along for others who might be trying to find more info as I was!

Thanks for the info! I am having my reception at the Parkview Terrace and it's right next to the Popp Bandstand. I didn't realize that you couldn't rent that on its own. At least they don't charge for ceremonies in the park itself! That sounds really nice.
FYI - Popp Fountain is in a totally different area of the park.

It is nice that they don't charge for having a ceremony in the park.  My reception is downtown, so the other areas are ruled out for me.  The Peristyle is very large and I'm with you on feeling like it is too large for my ceremony.  I just like the location by the water, it makes for a good setting, but not worth the 700 just for the ceremony.

I got married in the Rose Garden, but the Azalea Garden also makes for a GORGEOUS ceremony. My reception was in the Pavilion of the Two Sisters, so it was convenient for me to do everything in one place.

I worked with April and she was great. At first, I felt like she wasn't as "on top" of things as I would've liked. However, once I realized her workload I got that she was giving me all she could. It was also 18 months until my wedding....
In the months just before, she was AMAZING! She (and the rest of the staff) went above and beyond.

We are getting married at the Popp Bandstand, reception to follow at Parkview Terrace.  It is great to hear that April and the other staff are great to work with.  Peristyle is definitely a beautiful structure but definitely too large for our particular ceremony (only about 125 guests).  Plus, I love the idea of our guests walking only a few feet to the reception!

How much is it to have a reception and the Parkview Terrence?

the skinny on popp fountain is they are taking contracts for weddings starting in october.  it is scheduled to be finished in june.  they have architectural renderings of the building that is under way, and i have to say it is nice!  will fit 400 people.  the greatest part though is, of course, the fountain.  it is stunning!

it is true that spaces for only a ceremony are extremely limited.  however, for those who have only looked at the pavilion of two sisters for a reception, and thought "that's way out of my price range", check out the lath house and garden study center!  it is MUCH more affordable.  and, it's also IN the botanical gardens.  you cannot rent out the azalea garden or the rose garden unless your reception is in the pavilion of two sisters.  the only exception is if the rose garden is not being used, and your ceremony will not interfere with the timing of another event, then you can have your ceremony there and your reception in the lath house/garden study center.

    here's a link to a wedding there:

i don't know about everyone else, but i have nothing but great things to say about the staff.  if you're having trouble getting in touch, call cathy at 483-9449.  she is so extremely patient and helpful!

    hope this helps, you guys!

    Hi!
This message is for 2 loveys... the link that you posted above, I was curious if you knew the couple personally.  I am also getting married in City Park but wanted to second line in the quarter after and noticed they did just that!  I am having a hard time figuring out the logistics and was wondering if you possible had any info:)

    Thanks so much,
    Lily
  • Can anyone tell me the cost of the Pavilion of the Two Sisters? I cant seem to find the info anyplace?
  • You won't find the info anywhere... I've looked! Finally a client of mine was having her wedding there and I asked for a Saturday day wedding it's a three terre payment so depending on the type of alcohol u serve again for a day time wedding it was 48 for house, 58 for call, 78 premium
  • I know the fee for rental of the Pavillion of two sisters but how much are their menu pakages or does it price according to bar requests?
  • I keep finding information about ceremonies at the Peristyle, but what about receptions?  Do they do receptions?  And can you use City Park catering?
  • Hi everyone! My fiance and I are seriously considering the Omni Royal Orleans and their Royal Garden Terrace for our reception (possibly ceremony). Had a visit their today and really loved it... just looking for personal experiences, honest insight, pros/cons, etc. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
