Ribbon for cake - where to find?

My bakery has asked me to supply them with 1 1/2 inch ribbon for the bands on the cake but I am having a terrible time finding it in the shade of grey I need.  Other than Michaels and online (seems impossible to buy less than 20 yards, I only need 3), do any of you have suggestions for other places in the NOLA metro area to buy ribbon? I've lived here for 6 years now but as a completely un-crafty person, I can't say I've looked for this type of thing before.

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!

  • You can probably buy a smaller quantity from etsy.  I'm surprised that your bakery doesn't just stock it.

Also check Hobby Lobby or Wal-Mart.

Check Gordons.  They have tons of ribbon, and you can get them to cut by the foot/yard.  Though if you're looking for a particular shade of grey, it might be harder to find.  You could always ask where they order from and see if they can order for you in their next shipment. Oriental Trading might have something as well.  You could also try party supply stores like Gem (Vets/Bonnabel) Szyabos (Gretna) or just party city.  Happy hunting.
  • Also maybe JoAnn's Fabrics or Hancock's Fabrics.
  • Just a little chime into this topic. I am actually having rhinestone banding on my cake... Do you know if this can be locally purchased? If not, than I guess I will have to do it online.

mswabacker, even though you only need 3 yards, the 25-yard rolls on www.efavormart.com are less then $8 and if it's in your wedding color, you may find another use for the remaining ribbon.  They might have the color you're looking for.

egammo, I bought rhinestone bouquet bands from the bride in the classified ad below.  She often has rhinestone banding for sale and she takes Paypal.

Bez, thanks. I remember looking at a couple of her posts on the Wedding Classifieds board... I just sent her a message.

  • Bezlu - thank you for the suggestion, unfortunately, it doesn't have the right color! I'm going to try the other places people suggested.  I feel like a dark grey isn't really that weird of a color but I guess it is!

Thanks everyone for all your help and suggestions!
