Second Line permit?

So we just decided to have a second line at our October wedding. I know we need a permit and police escort, but who do we need to contact for those? I tried to search, but only came up with an officer's name?

I think this is right, but someone who's doing one on the street may know different:

It will depend on what parish you are in where you have to go but this should help you out.

its 50 ish for the application, 100 per officer and you can contact Officer Don Powers: 504-343-5890 email donp1961@aol.com

I also found this link after i typed this up to check myself:

I read on a post recently that Officer Powers is no longer in charge of the permits.  I asked the poster if they knew who the new contact person at the PD was and she responded with his name.  It wasn't all that long ago (maybe in the last month or so).  I will go back and try to find it...if I can I will post.

    See thread/post "2nd Line Band" on 7-5-2011 @ 8:25 pm.  bezlu posts:

They said you should call C/O Lt Valiente in the Special Events division at 504.658.6240.  I can also send a blank application to anyone who wants one.  The total fees you have to attach to the application is $375

Don Powers in currently under investigation and has been suspended for a few days from the NOPD for handling police detail incorrectly.

Luckily we called and they had our permit on the books and we didn't pay him yet b/c he wanted us to send our money to his house!

Thanks for all the great information, as I have an email in to Don Powers, but now know I need to call Lt. Valiente.  Speaking of 2nd Lines - when did everyone apply for their permits?  Less than 6 months?  More?  We are getting married on a popular wedding weekend so I'm wondering if I should do it on the earlier side . . .

    Thanks!

That was my post from last month, when we went in person to the NOPD to clear this up for ourselves once and for all because it was so unclear who was handling things instead of Officer Powers.  I would add that Officer Powers did it for years, and was willing to accommodate seriously last minute requests (like the day of) but I got the impression things were going to be handled differently now, so I think to be safe, I would apply right now for an October date--especially, in case there are any further changes to the procedure that might come up.  We're filling ours out now for our February wedding!

    Good luck.

ETA: It was actually Don Powers himself, that led us to the correct department and he was quite frank and open about the fact that he was no longer handling permits, and the reason why.

This is good to know...I applied for my permit in March and Officer Powers said to mail the fee a month before.  I tried to call Lt Valiente but the number was a fax machine.  I live in the city, did you go to the station in the Quarter?  Maybe I will do that too in order to make sure my permit is in place.  Thanks for the heads up y'all!

Hmmmm. I'm not in New Orleans, so I can't physically get there. Ugh.

My mom said that she was going to the station on Broad St to submit the payment. We booked ours last year or very early this year, right when we booked our band because they wanted to make sure we had a permit. I just got most everything done VERY early though.

The fax number is 504.658.6240 and the telephone number is 504.658.6201.

I just called and spoke to "Lisa" and was told that I could fax in the permit application at anytime up to 4 weeks before the wedding, then mail them the payment once they contact me.

    Payment would be mailed to:
    NOLA PD Special Events Section
    715 South Broad St
    New Olreans, LA 70119

Personally, I'm not going to wait until 4 weeks before the wedding but just want to give everyone the information I got.

How did you get your application?  Do you have to call and get one faxed or sent to you or is there one online (can't find it on their website)?

    Thanks!

This information is so helpful.  I couldn't find the application online, so I just called, and they're emailing it to me.  Just wanted to save someone the trouble of trolling around the internet looking for the form.
  • Can anyone send me a blank application for a second linke permit
