Second Dress?

Anyone changing into a second dress at their reception?
I'm wearing a ballgown and I'm a little worried I'll be uncomfortable by the end of the night.
Anyone else thinking of doing this? If so, where are you getting your second dress?

Re: Second Dress?

  • Ugh. Sorry. Didn't mean to post this twice!
  • I just bought a sequined dress yesterday from Bloomingdales. I mostly bought a shorter dress to second line in. I didn't want to wear my Monique Lhuillier dress down Bourbon Street. http://m.saks.com/pd.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=282574492821269&productCode=0474157254447&R=797532716508&P_name=Aidan+Mattox&sid=13602A50C7AA&bmUID=jnON9Mt

louisiana, can't wait to see it on-- I love :-)

carole, I had a 2nd dress that I intended to wear once we got to the party portion of the evening and I never put it on!  The night went by so fast, I was having so much fun, and I really loved my #1 dress.  There wasn't even really a break to go down the hall and change even though we had a 6-hour reception.  If you're having a 2nd line at the end of the night, I guess it's easier to find that specific moment to change and maybe I would have tried harder if my dress had been a ballgown.  Bloomingdales and Nordstrom's have great options if you want somehting more like a party dress (white, silver, gold) and David's Bridal has a bunch of less formal dresses specifically intended as reception dresses, that still look bridal if you prefer that.

I got this one for our farewell brunch:

  • i will! i'm wearing a long gown for my ceremony, and maybe the reception, but changing into a knee-length dress for the after party on Bourbon :)
  • I'm going to stick with my ballgown the entire day/evening, including the second line from the church to the reception.  I know alot of girls here have mentioned changing for comfort or to preserve their dress, but my attitude is the hell with it.  I love my dress and it is going to get dirty underneath anyways (we are in the French Quarter the entire time), so might as well go with it.  It is my one special wedding dress and I am going to wear it as long as I possibly can. :) My mom was kind of pushing me to go with a dress that was lighter and maybe more appropriate for a second line, but I wanted the dress that matched my ceremony at the Cathedral and it is in keeping with my personality to drag my @ss through the FQ wearing a satin ballgown.  I'm also wearing 4 inch heels and plan to keep those on all day too.  I can not wait!  If you are looking forward to finding the perfect reception dress, then go for it!  Whatever works for you.

  • I am wearing a princess poofy gown for the ceremony and a form fitted gown for the reception. Both are long. Both I purchased at Bridal Manor in Covington.
  • I'm not doing a second dress. I love my dress and I figured that I only get to wear it once, so I might as well get as much use as possible from it!
  • My daughter wore her dress the entire night..even when we couldn't find the last hook to bustle it.  She looked amazing all night. She did buy a white dress to go out on the town after the reception with her friends.  (They aren't going on their honeymoon right away, so they enjoyed the night..especially since so many people came from out of town.)
