Please HELP?! NO City Park Brides!?!??

I'm from Baton Rouge and looking into NOLA City Park for wedding/reception. I can't find many reviews online. Anyone had/been to a wedding in City Park? If so how was the service, food, environment, etc??? I emailed their events coordinator for info.  I was hoping for the ceremony in the peristyle- but their packet says NO MUSIC.  Is this true?  How can I have my wedding ceremony without some sort of music?  Anyway just hoping to get some good reviews from previous or future city park brides. Thanks!

We're having our reception in the Pavilion of the Two Sisters Oct 9.  We actually had our tasting last night and the food was VERY good and there are a lot of choices.  I think the atmosphere is absolutely gorgeous.  I'm dealing with Cathy and she has been great to work with so far.  Sorry I don't know anything about music-- is it no musicians at all or just no sound systems?  Can you have musicians if they don't have amps?

I second the food being fantastic. My wedding is in two weeks in the Azalea and Camellia Garden with the reception being in the Pavilion of the Two Sisters. Don't know much about the peristyle so can't help you there but I agree with PP that you may be able to do a live jazz band or something with no amps. Make a list and call with all your questions one day. They will answer any questions you may have. I've been dealing with April and she hasn't been too bad.

I'm having my wedding reception at the Parkview Terrace in City Park in June 2011.  I've heard great things about the food, and so far, the coordinator there has been really nice.  I don't know much about the Peristyle rules, but I agree, that you should ask detailed questions and explore all options for music.  Good luck!

I'm also a City Park bride (ceremony in the Rose Garden; reception in the Pavilion). We had our tasting Tuesday night. The service and food are outstanding.

I feel like they are very accommodating and they'll surely work something out for you. I think the issue with the Peristyle is that there is no power source.

The rule for music in the Peristyle is no amplification.  This means you can have an acoustic solo guitar, a small string quartet, etc.  You also have to be out of the space by 7pm, last I checked.  One really unique thing about the peristyle is that you can take a gondola ride through the waterways of the park at dusk if you have your ceremony early enough.  It makes for a nice quiet moment between you and your new husband while the guests move to the reception location and await your arrival.  Gondola rides must be done before dark and by reservation only.

    apapale22 -

I just tried to private message you b/c I have a few questions about who you are working with at Parkview Terrace, but for some reason the website said you don't exist (?). Would you mind sending me a private message and then maybe theknot.com will allow me to reply to you?

    Thanks so much!

    Hey,

I tried to message you, and it also said "user not found."  I'm not understanding the private message function--can't get it to work for anyone.  You can just email me at apapale22@gmail.com

    Cheers!

    We just shot a wedding at City Park this past weekend. They had a trumpet player for the music and also allowed a small amp and mic for the vows. You can check out some photos on our blog;

The couple's name;   Jennifer and Trey (so you can find it)

    I hope this helps.

Did anyone use the lanterns for that City Park will provide for tables at the reception? Can you describe what they look like, if you used them?
    Thanks

I'm planning a wedding at the peristyle/garden center at the end of may.  Was your June wedding too hot?  What did you do about temperature control?
  • Yay!! I'm a city park bride! We are having our ceremony in the perystyle. You cannot have AMPLIFIED music (aka, a band) but solos or trios are fine! They are really great there!!!! I can't wait to do a tasting.
