Affordable Wedding Cakes

Help!  I really need an affordable wedding cake...meaning one that is not $800.  I can't use Haydels because they will not deliver after 5 and noting can load into my venue until then so they are out.  Any suggestions?

We are using Gambino's.  They seemed reasonable...I think their prices are comparable to Haydel's.  You'd have to ask them about delivery times b/c I'm not sure about that.

Cheryl Miller Cakes on the Northshore is very reasonably priced.  She probably charges a delivery fee to New Orleans, but she is doing my cake for $350, and my cake is pretty intricately decorated!  Great price!

I used Decadence, a small bakery on Rampart Street. They don't make traditional wedding cakes - they are more about taste than decoration. For 150 people, I got 4 smaller cakes and a bunch of cookies for around $200. Matt is great to work with.

I am having a small two tiered cake on top (one to cut, one to freeze) and then getting cupcakes for the bottom. I am going with Kupcake Factory and the cupcakes are amazing! It is also very reasonable.

Thanks for the ideas!  I think we are going with Gambino's.  They are so nice, reasonably priced and their work is beautiful.

Speaking of wedding cakes, and Heidi i dont mean to bump your thread here, but has anyone or know anyone whos used Swiss? My FI is a die-hard Swiss Confectioners fan, it is the only place he will even consider looking at. Both his sisters wedding and baby shower cakes were from Swiss, and they were good, but we just havent had a chance to get over there and try samples.
They dont have a website (or at least not one i can find) so i have info on them at all really.

I didn't know if you got an answer about Swiss, so I wanted to tell you what I know.I haven't dealt with them for a wedding cake yet, but for normal cakes they're pricey, and super sweet to my taste- but it's a favorite of lots of fancy uptown folks, and my daughter is addicted. Here's a link to the cake they did for her graduation last year. It ran $260, fed about 75 and was pretty but not terribly intricate: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tessconrad/3584713249/in/set-72157619092508544/The guests seemed to love it, and it was "wedding cake flavor." Hope that helps!Tess

Tess, thank you. i found their website one day, so ive seen some of the cakes.
my FI whole family are Swiss cake fans. Im not a big cake person, i hardly ever eat it, so im not all that worried about where its from or anything. We (my FI and I)are really good at comprimising, so he gets his Swiss cake and I get the officant I want. Laughing

BTW, your daughters cake came out very good!

</div><div>I disagree. I called Haydel, Swiss, basically every bakery in New Orleans today and Swiss was by far the cheapest. They said they could do a 4 tier cake that fed 200 people for 480.00. They were the only ones that quoted me UNDER 1,000. No Joke. Not sure about the taste or decor, but they are not pricey at all. </div>
