Hotels for receptions...

Any recommendations for affordable hotels for a reception in the French Quarter? We are on a tight budget:(

Try the Marriott Pere Marquette (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/msybr-renaissance-pere-marquette-hotel/). They made us a competitive offer when our information went out through the tourism bureau.

Or Chateau Bourbon. That's where we did our hotel block and they were willing to work with a budget. Molly Hannen was the person I worked with.

We had our reception at the Wax Musuem and I thought it was affordable. There is a rental fee and you have to use their bar, but you can bring in your own catering. Might be worth looking at.

Any reason in particular you are stuck on hotels only?? I found the most affordable options to be non-hotel venues, but then again that was my limited experience. Of course I didn't contact every hotel in the new orleans area

I will say that I felt I had a limited budget (by new olreans standards, probably moderate by all other standards), and these are the lower-end price locations I found:

gallier hall (provided you don't mind bringing in every table, chair, etc - this could save you money in the long run if you do your homework right)

federal ballroom

wax museum

rosy's (** this is uptown, not downtown/french quarter)

board of trade (the packages they send you up front are flexible, they will work with you w/in your budget)

All I can say is definately do your homework - and always ask "I have a budget of X for the reception, can you work with me" because you will be surprised how many places will say yes! I almost ruled out several places based on their initial packages they sent me, but when I inquired further they were willing to work with me! Also, when you go to those "package-y" places, be sure to look over ever little thing it includes, and see if you take away things you dont need, if they will knock down the price.
