Smilie's Plantation Room

My mom has been hounding me to have a look at this place with her for our reception (even though we want something small and inexpensive.) But the website doesn't have any pictures of a wedding reception. Does anyone have any experience with this place - good or bad? I saw one picture and a list of the services they provide. It looks just plain CHEAP. And by cheap I mean tacky. We want our wedding to be inexpensive, but we don't want people to know just by looking at the decorations and eating the food. Thanks.

The food and room itself are nice enough especially what you are paying for it. The decorations, however, look like they should be kept in the 80s. Maybe see if they can take some of the decorations down or move it. The little arbor (or whatever it's called) is the only thing I would really be worried about taking care of. It's really outdated and gives you more of a cheap "reception hall" feeling. Otherwise, I would say go for it!
  • Thanks. I saw a picture with that arbor thing and it looks awful! Hahaha! That's what I'm concerned about. I don't want it to feel "reception hall-y".
  • I went to a wedding reception there in July. It was actually pretty nice! It was the first time I had been in that room for an event because everything else we were in the main restaurant. I honestly think the arbor would be the only thing I would be worried about! The staff was really sweet, and the food tasted good!
