Welcome Party Challenges

We're trying to plan a brief, basic welcome party for our guests the Friday night before the wedding.  We're just looking for 2 hours of drinks and a few hors d'ouevres.  Ideally we'd like a FQ bar/restaurant, something casual.  The challenge?  The cheapest per-person cost we've been able to find is $42 plus tax and gratuity.  Is it just me, or does that seem excessive for 2-3 drinks and a few hors d'ouevres?

With over 100 people expected, we can't just show up somewhere and put everyone on the same tab unfortunately.  Should we risk waiting until closer to the date (October) to see if unbooked venues are a bit more flexible, or is that just normal pricing for a welcome party?

Re: Welcome Party Challenges

  • Have you checked acme oyster house?  I know their pricing is pretty reasonable, but I am not sure they can accommodate that many people.
  • You can also try Felipe's on Decatur. They have a wonderful private room and are more than willing to work with you on the menu.
  • I don't know the price but my daughter is having her welcome party at Tujagues following the rehearsal dinner.  They were able to get a separate room which was important to them.  Their second choice had been Acme Oyster House.
  • If you find out what kind of package your daughter has at Tujague's, and could send me the info, that's something we could do as we're also planning a rehearsal dinner.  THANKS!
  • Definitely Maximo's on Decatur!!.. There's a private room upstairs!... You can do open bar or just wine and Apps.  My Bridal party threw our "stock the bar" party here.. It was fantastic and has a great balcony that opens up and overlooks Decatur street.  They are very easy to work with, the food and service is fanastic!

When I was researching rehearsal dinner packages, Tujauges had one as low as $36 pp (not including alcohol).  Open bar or wine service could be added for $12/pp per hour, whether with apps or a full dinner.

Acme started as low as $27/pp (without alcohol) and their private room was really spacious (could easily accomodate 75 for sit-down dinner).  Keep in mind Acme has a $300 room rental fee, and Tujagues has none.
  • Try Crescent City Brewhouse.
