FRENCH QUARTER VENUES FOR CEREMONY/RECEPTION

Hi,

We're planning a destination wedding in New Orleans for mid-November for about 75-100 people.  We've somewhat narrowed down our venues to the following:

AUDOBAN CLUBHOUSE
BROUSSARDS
HOTEL MAZARIN
LATROBES
MAISON DUPUY

Would love to hear any opinions on the above in regard to food, service, experience, etc..  We're looking to have a buffet style dinner with assigned table seating and room for dancing!

Thanks!

Re: FRENCH QUARTER VENUES FOR CEREMONY/RECEPTION

  • Hi there, I'm having my wedding at the Audubon Clubhouse in Sept and there is not really a good option for a seating chart for 100 people. The venue can 'seat' up to 80 (90 MAX) and the table are 4 person tables mostly. The seating is also outside on the porch. We love it that if feels more of a 'homey' type of environment, but if you are looking for traditional every one sit, you at a head table, everyone sits to watch you for the toast, cake cutting, dances, etc......this  may not work. Most of our guests are younger and will only eat at the tables then constantly surround that bar and dance floor. If you have an open mind and think of the venue like "its your amazing house" and you are giving a reception there, then it will work beautifully!!!

Audubon also has a Tea Room that is more like a reception hall, however it is large...can hold up to 300 seated. If you get a great decorator though, they can use fabric and pipe n drape to make the space more intimate. Expect to add to your budget at least $3,000 for the decorator. I would reccommend : Your Event Delivered! They can even break up the space so you can maybe have a lounge/cocktail area, then a dinner area, then maybe a dance floor/band space. They are super creative.....just budget for it!
  • PS- Audubon venues are in the Garden District as well, not IN the FQ :)
  • Hi danalambert,
We looked at Latrobes for our wedding this April, and while we ultimately decided to go with a different venue, it is a gorgeous building!  We loved the coordinator there and she seemed really on the ball. I know they are really popular for weddings.  I have heard their food is to die for, and we really liked that there are two distinctly separate spaces for the ceremony and then the reception.  They set up the bar area and your cake display separately from the central reception area as well, although it does not feel out of the way, just off to the side :)  What we did not like about it was that it was a little too formal for our style, as the reception area looks essentially like a ballroom, which we didn't want.  Early on in our planning i had inquired about Hotel Mazarin but they didn't have our date available.  There have been previous posts from brides that had their weddings there (hollybee is one) so there is defintiely more info on here if no one posts about it on this thread.  I don't know much about the other venues, except that another bride had posted on a different thread that at the Maison Dupuy they will not close the pool to hotel guests, so if you are having your ceremony in the courtyard (where the pool is) there could be some random person doing laps during your wedding!  I guess some people would be OK with that, but not me.  Good luck with your decision, the ladies on here are incredibly helpful!

  • I love all the pictures I've seen of Latrobe's but their minimums for a Saturday evening wedding were way out of our budget.  One thing to keep in mind about hotels (Maison Dupuy falls into this category as does the W) is that they generally keep the swimming pools open to the public - probably not a problem in November.
Personally I love the Mazarin (formerly the St. Louis) and like the fact that there is some weather protection for the court yard.
  • I've been to a wedding at the Maison Dupuy which was lovely.  I thought the food was just okay.

As others have mentioned, Latrobe's has a very high minimum for a Saturday night wedding.  I'm not sure it would be worth the cost for a 75 person wedding.

Also check out the Bourbon Orleans.  They have a lovely ballroom with a balcony overlooking Bourbon Street.
  • Was married at hotel Mazarin on January 14. Search the board for my reviews. Food was great, definitely recommend getting married there.
  • Thanks so much everyone.  We were really leaning toward Hotel Mazarin, but I think the Sat. night food & bar minimum was SO much that it put that locale out of the running.

Will definitely check in to some of these other spots mentioned.  I may luck out at the hotels with the pools - if someone is swimming on a Saturday night in November I'll just tip my hat to them!

Anyone ever attend a wedding at Cafe Amelie?
