Evening Wedding Day Of Timeline

Ladies,

Those of you who had an evening wedding (my ceremony starts at 7pm) - can you please send me your day of timelines?  I'm trying to get a handle of it all -- especially the pre-ceremony stuff and the reception timing.  Thanks!

Re: Evening Wedding Day Of Timeline

  • I'm sorry I can't help you out with the timeline because I'm getting married at 1:30 (and looking for a timeline myself!)  BUT, we are getting married on the same day : )

<div>Sweet!  Good to know there are others praying for excellent weather on the same day :)</div>
  • I take no credit for coming up with this myself =-).  We're planning a little earlier than you but maybe this will help:

9:30 breakfast with our parents and grandparents
12:30 hair, makeup & getting ready
3:30 first look and pics with our bridal party
5:30 ceremony (with 15 minutes padding for a late start)
6:15 cocktail hour (just the 2 of us will go off for pics)
7:15 guests are seated, then the bridal party will be introduced
7:30 our first dance, then toasts
    7:45 dinner is served
9:00 cake is cut, then the party starts
10:45 last call for drinks in to-go cups
11:00 band starts 2nd line to our yet unplanned post-wedding party location =-)
  • My photographer actually gave me a timeline and that was VERY helpful -- she was able to rattle it off the top of her head! Check with your photog, based on locations and ceremony time they can probably give you a ready-made timeline.

    Hi ladies
We had a 6pm ceremony at Houmas House - ceremony and reception all at the same location and we had to be out of the ballroom by 11pm. Here is our timetable. We did not do a "first look".  Good luck!!

1pm – 4pm:   Ladies (bride, bridesmaids, mom) get ready at Houmas House. We had Two Sisters there to do my hair & makeup, all the bridesmaids hair (6 of them) and then makeup for my mom and this was all done in 3 hours.

2pm – 5:15pm:  Photos ongoing – photographer arrives at 2pm to take detailed shots and shots of the girls getting ready. Formal photos will start around 4pm

3:30pm   Groom, groom's family & groomsmen arrive at venue

4pm  Vendors will start to arrive (florist, bakery, DJ etc)

    5:30pm  Guests begin to arrive

    6pm  Ceremony begins.

6:25pm (approx)   Ceremony ends & the guests go to the courtyard for cocktails and hors d’oeurves. Bridal party takes group photos. Bride & groom take formals together.

7pm  Guests head into ballroom for dinner.

7:15pm   Bride & groom enter ballroom after everyone else is inside, Father of the Bride makes welcome toast and dinner is served. In between apprtizer and salad course, Father of the Groom makes a speech (he specifically requested this). After main course is finished (and in process of being cleared), Best Man gives toast.

8:30pm (approx):  Cake is cut, then first dance of Bride & Groom, then parents dance, then dance floor open.

9:00pm (approx.)   Bouquet toss (no garter toss).

10:45pm    Brass band arrives and begins second lining around ballroom and then out to the parking lot for the guests to head home.

11pm      All guests are out of ballroom – mom and family friends gather things and head home.
  • Oh ceremony was at 5, I guess you could just bump everything up 2 hours: 1:00 hair and makeup arrive 3:00 photogs arrive and start detail shots 3:30 bridal and BM shots 4:15 groom and GM pics 5:00 ceremony 5:30 second line 6:00 cocktail hour starts, took a few family photos but we were not away from the reception at all 6:45ish dinner served 730 first dance, father daughter dance 830 cake cutting followed by BM speech 10:00 end of reception
  • We started super early, because we were all getting our hair and makeup done and I only hired one person for each.  Even then it still felt super rushed.

    9:00 a.m. Hair
    11:30 a.m. Makeup
    2:30 p.m. First Look
    3:30 p.m. Pictures with family
4:00 p.m. Pictures with bridal party
    5:30 p.m. Ceremony
    6:00 p.m. Reception
    6:30 p.m. First Dance, Father/Daughter, Mother/Son Dance
    7:30 p.m. Cut cake
8:00 p.m. Bouquet and Garter Toss
9:00 p.m. Second Line to Bourbon Street
9:30-11:30 p.m. After Party at Petite Bourbon
  • Thanks yall!  I've been contacting my vendors to give me an idea of how much time I need for each thing.  That plus your input has been great!  I'll post mine when I get done. :)
  • I am planning on a 4:30 ceremony followed immediately by reception. I had everything planned out- which looks similar to many posts so far that I have read at least I thought I did. I talked to a vendor (and she said I should arrive at least two hours to the ceremony/reception location. I thought that seemed a little extreme. Did anyone show up that early? I don't want to show up too late and be stressed but two hours seemed excessive for just a touch up on makeup/hair if necessary.

  • I am still working on it, but mine is looking a bit like this... I will have more details after this weekend.... Also, I don't know if I want to do the second line before or after my reception. My photographer suggested in between the ceremony and reception because everyone is in the moment, but I don't know....
