second line permit/police escort

Did anyone panic about receiving the permit ahead of time??  I submitted the application 3 weeks ago, and was given a vague, "we will call and tell you what to do about the fees"....I still have had no call.  I called and confirmed they had the application, which they do, and they said "probably by the end of the week" I should hear.  Now I know they do these all the time, I just am worried!  my wedding is next Friday.  Who did yall make the payments to?  Can you bring them day of?  I have not been given anywhere to send anything and it's only a week away....getting nervous :)

I paid in person 2 days before the wedding when we got in town. I posted a few months ago about the particulars if you can find that thread. That office is super busy and it's just one guy from what I gather so it's a little informal.
  • I outsourced this to someone with my secondline band. I used the Storyville Stompers (AMAZING!) and wrote a check to Eddie Selby (not sure if he's affiliated with the Stompers or has his own business) for maybe $100? And for that he took care of all the secondline stuff. I don't know if it's "worth" $100 in an objective sense but I was happy not to have to deal with it, especially being from out of town and having enough other things to take care of in the few days before the wedding.
  • you know there are a number of things that I thought were not 'worth' the money, that I now wish I did...haha!  (coordination being one of them!).  I have everything submitted, so at this point it's really just figuring out what to do with the fee...hopefully I hear soon :)
  • I thought the same thing when we applied for ours (months before our wedding).  I confirmed they received the application and then it was just a waiting game.  My parents went in person to pay the fees 3 days before our wedding and it was no big deal.  Everything turned out perfectly.  We had 3 NOPD escorts (2 on mopeds, 1 on foot) that met us at 10:30pm on a Saturday night in May at Jackson Square in front of the cathedral and then escorted our 105 people and Rebirth Brass Band down St. Peter and then Bourbon for about 7 blocks.  It was the best ever and NOPD were ridiculously efficient at crowd control.  I'm sure everything will run smoothly; good luck!
  • Thanks everyone!  where do you go to pay in person?

City hall. Just tell them at the desk when you sign in that you are there for a permit and they'll tell you where to go.
  • I called twice (politely) just to check and make sure they received the application and that seemed to help, I received the invoice almost 2 weeks before the wedding.  I was NOT prepared for how far out that station is though, didn't budget enough time.  It is way, way outside of the CBD
  • Whatever you do, DO NOT USE EDDIE SELBY! We paid Eddie a hefty fee, and on the day of the wedding he showed up late, and the police were not there. The band decided to proceed without him and go a route we did not need an escort for. Eddie pulled up while we were walking and started screaming and curing at the entire wedding party throughout our second line. Regardless, we paid him for nothing but embarrassment. Do not use his services-the cops won't show up even if you do!
