I am choosing between 'the Wax' and the Roosevelt Hotel and need some help.

Has anyone had recent experience with this venue? If so did you use the in-house caterer? I am also looking for strong leads on an outside caterer who will serve a small party of 40 (many caterers have a minimum of 100 guests) for less $34 a person?

I am getting married there December 1st and we just had our tasting with Benedicts (I think that would be considered one of their "in house" caterers)  which was FABULOUS!  They seem to be very flexible on price as well.  Not sure if they have a minimum.

I don't think you can bring an outside vendor to the Roosevelt Hotel.  Does $34 include the bar?  You might want to try Pigeon Catering or Capdeboscq Catering.  I think you might be able to hit that without alcohol.

I just got married at the Wax Museum in April and cannot reccommend it highly enough!

We used Pigeon Catering and spent about that much pp.

You cannot bring in an outside caterer to the Roosevelt. Two years ago when I was looking the cheapest package was ~70 pp before tax and gratuity, and I believe they have a minimum as well...

The wax museum is fun and you can bring in outside caterers! The cheapest caterer I have heard of is Capdebosq, but I believe they are $44 a head.

Both of those venues are VERY different atmospheres, I recommend touring both and thinking about what kind of *feel* you want for your wedding? Fun and funky or elegant and glamorous?

I am getting married at the Wax and have just opted to use their caterer, Benedict's.  It was the cheapest option I came across and the tasting was wonderful!  I have read great reviews on this board for them recently and I'm happy with my choice.  Although you can go with an outside caterer at the Wax (a major plus in my book, even though I ultimately went with theirs), you do have to use their bar for alcohol. But those prices are reasonable, there are several levels to choose from, and there is no food/bev minimum.  There is a rental fee, but also remember that tables, chivari chairs, linens, and centerpiece candelabras are all available and included at no charge.  I don't know anything about the Roosevelt, so I can't compare your two choices.

My fiance' and I are planning our wedding in NOLA for September or October 2013. We are from the Seattle area but living in Philadelphia at the moment. NOLA has always been one of my favorite cities so I'm excited we have settled on a destination. Now we just have to pick a venue. We are visiting N.O. this weekend so I'm trying to set up as many go see's while we are there but I want to narrow it down to the BEST since it's a short stay. It will be a wedding around the size of 130 people with a budget of no more then $24,000 (if we can go cheaper, that would be nice as well) We have settled with Rosy's Jazz Hall, the Wax Museum, The Chicory, the Galvez restaurant, Muriel's & the Riverview Room. R&R is booked until the end of November and Latrobe's seems a little our of our price range and a little more fancy then we are hoping for. We want the whole New Orleans feel as far as decor and food go but we also want it to be FUN .. with a DJ and dancing all night long. We are steering away from a hotel because usually they don't allow music as late as venues or restaurants. Looking for all the help we can get though so any other options or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you SO much!!
