Rehearsal Dinner recommendations in NOLA

We're coming from out of town for our NOLA wedding and I'm helping my future mother-in-law with some rehearsal dinner ideas.  We'll probably have about 75 people and would be great if we could find a place that accomodate a sit down dinner on a budget of about $7-9K.

We've been looking at the following:
Irene's
Upperline
Galatoires
Nola
Arnauds
Antoine's
Felix Oyster Bar
Muriels
Remoulade

Thoughts or any other great ideas?

Thanks everyone!

You might want to check Palace Cafe and some of the John Besh restaurants.  Since a lot of them are in hotels, I think they do private dining quite easily.  That's a pretty hefty budget, so I think they should be able to work with you.

  • I looked at Muriels and Brennans for mine. I decided on Brennans because of the menu and I prefered their private rooms.

  • Palace Cafe and Galvez both gave me reasonable quotes for my small wedding reception.
  • I am having mine at Deanie's in the quarter. They have private rooms too. They have several menus to choose from that would fit in your budget and their food is really good.

  • I don't know what "vibe" you want, but Cochon has private rooms upstairs.  The food is amazing.  It's not in the quarter, though.  I believe it's in the warehouse district
  • We went with Commander's palace and chose brunch to be economical, but with your budget, dinner would definitely be an option.
  • Irene's is AMAZING. Not sure if they do rehearsal dinners, but go for it if they do. Seriously. One of the best meals I've ever had, and I'm from here.

  • I second Palace Cafe - we are having ours there and Lisa is super sweet and so responsive. We also looked at Muriels which is a great option if you have the budget for it.
  • We would have LOVED Irene's - hands down one of the best meals I've ever had in NOLA.  Unfortunately, there space is really small and couldn't handle more than about 25.  Still - can't wait to have another meal there :)

  • Dooky Chase is an internationally famous restaurant (President's eat there) that has delicious authentic New Orleans food, with multiple pirvate dining rooms and thr prices couldn't be better! The staff is amazing and the World Famous Leah Chase will be there to cook your dinner! Call Stella Reece for pricing. Sorry if I sound like a commercial for them, I was just so excited when we booked them for our rehearsal dinner. Having grown up in New Orleans, I have eaten at all the usually thought of places (commander's palace, palace cafe, brennan's etc.) and I really wanted a different experience for my guests so I was thrilled that Dooky Chase combined an upscale atmosphere with down home charm. Good Luck!
  • I didn't realize Dooky Chase was open again, that's awesome.  If you like Irene's, check out Tommy's.  We are having our rehearsal dinner there.  Tommy and Irene were married/together and had Irene's, they divorced/split, and Tommy opened his place on Tchoup (across from Lucy's)....so many of the dishes are actually the same.  My fi and I have eaten in both places and really enjoy Tommy's much more.  I found the service to be a lot better and more accomodating.  The private party menu for Tommy's is great and affordable and best of all, there's no minimum.  We are feeding 33 people for less than 2k (that includes tax and grat) for what I consider a high class menu.  Check it out.  It's definitely under the radar but the ambiance and food is just amazing.  They respond to emails quickly and will even change the menu to accomodate preferences.
