Decades Music?

Hi ladies!

I just got a quote from Decades Music for a "level 1" DJ, and it was a little higher than I expected and than I had seen quoted on these boards in the past. I would really appreciate some insight from people who have used them. I'm wondering if you went with the Level 1 or Level 2 and what you would recommend doing. If a Level 2 DJ is almost half the price and still capable of doing a wedding, I think I'd prefer that. I do want the DJ to make a few announcements (announcing the bridal party as we enter), but I don't really want him to "Emcee". I would prefer to let the guests mingle and talk on their own, so I'm not sure if I need someone super animated who is going to encourage people to play party games/line dance etc.

Please advise!

Thanks!

Re: Decades Music?

  • I don't know what Level 1 or 2 means.  I am definitely looking for the kind of DJ that you described and hired DJ Munkie C at my coordinator's suggestion.  He was very reasonably priced.
  • Not sure what level they had, but my fiance's former company used to hire them for their Christmas party and we weren't impressed.

Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • We had level 2  by Decades and I would absolutely have done level 1 if I could go back and re-do it.  The DJ seemed very young; I doubt he had done many weddings and did mostly school dances.  He played my "love" list in its entirety and didn't bother trying to read the crowd and change things up where it might be appropriate. He pronounced my admittedly difficult to pronounce married name wrong when he introduced us despite my sending a phonetic pronunciation to Rick the day before.  He didn't quite "get" that during things like the cake cutting he shouldn't cut the music entirely, but maybe play something cute on low volume.

It wasn't bad and I loved working with Rick.  But I think the service you expect with a DJ is what you get with level 1.  Level 2 may as well be a friend with an iPod of your favorite songs.

Side note: our DJ showed up with his girlfriend who sat with him the whole time. It didn't bother anyone but I thought it was odd.
