Hotel Blocks

Where do you ladies have your hotel blocks reserved at? I am searching for a nice place with a good price.

We did Hotel Monteleone and The Whitney in order to have 2 different price ranges for guests.

We tried to pick out hotels and get price quotes, but there are SO many hotels in New Orleans, it seemed overwhelming.

Based on the advice of other brides on this board, I went to www.neworleanscvb.com and did a hotel info request (click weddings, then click group wedding assistance, then fill out their form).  Within 3 or 4 days, I had price quotes from at least 20 hotels.  That way, we were able to eliminate places by price and/or location without calling or going to every single place.  It helped me soooooo much with the room blocks process.

We did the W on Poydras across from Harrah's.  We got an awesome rate for a great hotel.

I know this is not a polite thing to ask, but would you mind sharing what rate you were able to secure at the W on Poydras?  That is the hotel we would like to use and it would be nice to know what range we are talking about before we talk to them.  If you are uncomfortable sharing it, I totally understand though!

Just another thing to keep in mind... we thought we would get some good rates for our guests but there are two huge conventions in town that happen to be on the same weekend so we weren't even able to get room blocks at some hotels. We ended up with the Westin and the Country Inn and Suites. Both have been wonderful to work with!

The rate we were quoted for the W was $149/night.  I was pretty shocked by how great the rate was.

But, I'm going to agree with mabezan - the weekend of your wedding really will affect the rates you get.  I don't think there were any conventions the weekend of my wedding.  Plus, the rate was for 2 nights (we had a lot of out of town guests) so maybe they give better rates for multiple vs. single nights.

Yes, like the others said, you really have to get a quote for your date b/c the rates can be wildly different even for the same hotel, depending on what is going on in the city that weekend.

Our room blocks are at Monteleone and the Hampton Inn on Carondelet.  They are only a couple of blocks from each other so our guests won't be far away regardless of which hotel they choose.  We got pretty good rates: Monteleone @ $139 and Hampton Inn @ $89.  Time of the year and day of the week are factors that cause the rates to vary greatly.  Also, some hotels impose stay controls which is when the hotel requires guests to stay for two or more nights.  The Monteleone does this: if you book on a Saturday night, you are required to also book either the Friday before or the Sunday after too.  Hope this helps
