Just Booked!!

After considering about 15 different venues, I finalized booking today!  Getting married on November 16, 2012 at St. Joseph Church and am having the reception at Southern Oaks!  I'm so excited!  Has anyone had really great or really awful experiences there?  Any advice or words of wisdom?  Also, did anyone have any issues with getting married on a Friday night?  My FI was somewhat skeptical, said that not many people would be able to go.  Did anyone experience this?  Thanks!!

My sister got married on Friday night in Franklinton (we live in Chalmette so it is quite a drive) and people who weren't invited came. It wasn't a problem.

I've been to many, manyweddings at Southern Oaks. You have nothing to worry about -- they consistently have great food and great service. You will be well taken care of.  I am getting married on a Friday night as well.  I originally planned for a 7 pm ceremony time but changed it to 7:30 to give everyone a little more time to get there.  Congrats!

I just booked a friday night in July 2012 at Southern Oaks plantation to have my ceremony and reception. I feel the people that really want to come will make it!!

Exactly!  I wouldn't worry about the Friday night AT ALL.  We're in Chalmette, and we really didn't want the reception at the civic center or in the city, so we're asking people to drive after the ceremony to Metairie for the reception (we're getting a police escort).  Most people will be heading that way anyway to get home, but I keep stressing over it, but MsRichard is right--people who want to be there, WILL be there!

@<strong>kate504</strong>, represent the parish!  :)  And dude, we're getting married the weekend right before you!  Where are yall getting married??  :)
