Band suggestions

Hi guys - I am kind of new to the knot... or to the boards I guess is more accurate! I got engaged Memorial Day weekend and am planning our wedding for labor day 2010 at CBBC woot woot :) I am from Maryland and now live in New York. I am having a little trouble hunting down a good band. Most of my friends from MD have used DJ's so I wanted to see anyone had suggestions/recommendations. CBBC recommended Millium from Washington Talent Agency but being in NYC I can't really hear them play. My other friend recommended gonzos nose but they said they don't mc so not sure who would do it. Thought that was kind of the point of a band/dj... Let me know!! Thanks everyone.

We used Bobby & the Believers and they were amazing! We saw them play at a wedding years ago and remembered them when we got engaged. They are 14 pieces and are so fun. Another great thing is that they are local to the area. You can google them to find out their information since I don't have my wedding stuff with me anymore. HTH!

We used Onyx; and they are AMAZING.  They book through Washington Talent.  I've never heard a bad thing about any band that works through that agency.

Just saw you'd asked about Onyx below - so I can't help but add on a little extra AWESOME to their review.  They seriously made the wedding.  They were also voted "best band" in NoVA magazine last year (we were living down in Fairfax until a few months ago), so there must be a few people out there who agree with me. :)

http://www.powerhouse-band.com/This group is fantastic.  They keep everyone up dancing.  You can listen on the website.  They have also done celebrity weddings and parties.

Powerhouse did my friends' wedding last New Years' Eve and they were incredible. We booked Right Foot Red out of Annapolis-they are a lot of fun.

To find musicians for my wedding, I used a talent search company Gigmaster.com. On that site you can search by style, region, listen to samples, see the rates and read reviews. It was really helpful for me and pretty easy.

We're using Doctor's Orders. They played my friend's wedding and were fantastic.

I used Millennium at my wedding in June and they were incredible!! Everyone I have talked to since the wedding just raves about how amazing they were.  They were so engaging - they sang, danced, and really worked the crowd.  They were one of the only bands that offered continuous music and they lived up to that... they didn't take a break for 4 consecutive hours.  Let me know if you have any more specific questions!

My sister used Highway Star and they were great. They kept the dance floor packed the entire night.
