Sheraton Hotel North in Towson

My fiance and I are going to check this place out this coming weekend. I was just wondering if any of you ladies have checked it out previously and what you all thought. Any and all opinions are welcome!

my friend had her reception there...it was great and it was a lot of fun after the wedding to stay at the bar with the sleepover guests. She did say that they tried to jerk her around on prices a bit. she worked in the service industry for years and caught a lot of upcharges to staffing and food costs. so just be aware of that and keep savvy! ps they have a heated pool!

My friend had a horrible experience there several years ago...they booked a Johns Hopkins event for the same time and pushed her reception time up, 1 hour, then 2, then 3...did throw in some free rooms and appetizers to make up for it but it really didn't...they didn't tell her until a few weeks from the event so she had no choice but to deal...Since then, been to several weddings/events that are nice but I think there are better optionsjust my opinion

The group sales manager at the Sheraton North used to be at the Pikesville Hilton and she was a nightmare. I dealt with her for my room block at the Hilton and she was the most stress-inducing vendor I encountered. If you have to deal with someone with the initials GV, I'd suggest asking for someone else.  It will make the process much smoother.

not to be a negative nancy but isn't that the hotel where that guy murdered his family?  Maybe that's a different one though....

I am having my reception here.  Yes this was the hotel where the guy murdered his family.  I booked this place about 6 months before that happened.Anyway I chose this venue for entirely practical reasons because it fit certain needs that we had.  The primary need was to have a hall big enough for our group (without splitting people up) and to be in a full service hotel in a centrally located area of Baltimore for our guests.   We considered the Hunt Valley Marrott but decided that being closer into Baltimore was better.  I have not had any problems dealing with this venue and I am comfortable that my wedding day will go smoothly with them.  There are a range of reviews on wedding wire but they all pretty much said that actual wedding day went off fine.Anyway for myself personally this is not a "dream amazing wedding venue I am in love with" but I think it will meet our needs and be very nice.So if you specifically want or need to be in Towson in a hotel venue this is a good option imo.

One of my Bridesmaids had her wedding there in May 08. it was a darn nightmare, They told her she could have the Service outside, well they had tore it up with construction, there was construction stuff everywhere, the place was so hot AC not working properly, They treated her so bad she cried most of the night, Then before the event there was some words there just plain out wrong to say. So I know if you don't have anything nice to say then your not supposed to. But this place is just there for the money. There was a big thing last year on here after wedding.  BUt you have to use your own judgement.

We are having both our ceremony and reception there. We wanted to book there because the pricing was good and it was close to a shopping center and restaurants for our out of town guests. Also, one of the bigger deciding factors was how hard the wedding specialist worked to get us a room on our date after a snafu happened and someone booked all of the rooms in the hotel for a conference that she was unaware of. That being said, that wedding specialist is no longer working there, however the wedding coordinator has been absolutely wonderful to work with. I have never worked with anyone besides these two women at the hotel. No sales manager, nothing. They have been more than accomodating for me changing around menus (aside from their typical packages), and have always responded back to me in a very timely manner. We are using the Warfields Ballroom, and I am very happy with everything I am getting. A few things to keep in mind. Jobs change. The same people that were there a year or two ago, might not be now. I won't say to discount everything that the other girls have said. Definitely take it into consideration and if there is anything that they have mentioned that worries you, feel free to bring it up to the coordinator. And yes, this is the same hotel where the man murdered his family. They were from out of town, and it just so happens that was the hotel they were in. I also booked the hotel a few months before that incident. Good luck!

Thanks Ladies, I'll keep all that you said in mind. The whole murder thing is no big deal to me or my fiance. I mean where are you going to go there someone hasn't died at some point in time whether naturally or unnaturally. If anyone has any other ideas of where i could look on this side of Baltimore let me know! I still have a while as our wedding is not until 2011 but we are having to pay for everything ourselves. We will be lucky to have about $5000 for everything. So any and all help i can get would be great!

I'd like to echo what hbovee said.  The wedding coordinator and the wedding specialist when she was there are the quickest of all my vendors to respond to email.  The wedding coordinator responds in about 10 minutes to any email I have ever sent during business hours.  The longest ever has been like two hours.  That type of responsiveness puts my mind at ease.

Haven't worked with Heather yet.  Maybe she is the new wedding specialist?  The weddding specialist it seems to handle intitial bookings and then after that some of the implementation is handed off to the coordinator.  I haven't dealt much with the Sheraton since my tasting--just busy getting other things done though I will be more in touch in the coming weeks.

Just another comment. We looked into having our wedding there, but decided not to. My FI loved it, but I liked where we are having it (The Mansion at Valley Country Club) better and I didn't want the typical hotel ballroom (but that is just me). We did however book our hotel rooms for us and all of our guests (and I mean about 98%, including those that live in town) there. We had some issues in the beginning with the block, but since have worked it out and we have been dealing with Pia there and she has been absolutely wonderful. Just wanted to give my two cents! :)

I was in a wedding there two years ago. The place was nice. It's really nice having your hotel room at the same place. Plus, I remember them taking very good care of my girlfriend.

Attended a reception there this past summer....the staff was uncaring and the food was bad.  We heard several guests commenting on both.  I would NOT recommend it.

Ok so we just got back from checking it our and Heather is an absolute sweetie. Both FI and I absolutely love the place. I am not sure if we are going to be looking for anywhere else or if we are going to decide to just go with the Sheraton! I'll keep everyone posted!

I haven't met Heather either. I've been working with Jennifer :)

Heather is super nice and really listens to what you tell her. I'll be working with her and eventually with jennifer as well. I met with Heather today because Jen is still relatively new and i had been talking with Heather about everything already. What room are you using? I think we are going to be going with the warfields hall. OMG we walked in there and were bother just like omg this is it!
