Name Change Question

Hey! Does anyone know where we go to get our name changed officially?  I'm assuming we do this after the wedding...also, what are all the important documents that we change generall?  I came up with the following (but am probably missing some): drivers license, social security, passport, and professional certifications.  TIA!

After the wedding you'll have your official marriage certificate. Take it with you to the SS office, MVA, and then you can change it with credit cards, bank, etc. I started with social security first and had no issues but I think they have changed some of their policies since then. You may want to give them a call before going and waiting in line.

You will hear lots of different stories about the order in which to do these things, but this seems to be the safest.Go to Social Security first. You can print out the forms you need online and fill them out and bring them with you. You will need your original marriage license OR a certified copy. After the SSA change has been processed they will mail you your new card (about 2 weeks). Then you can go to MVA to get your license changed. Again, you need your original marriage license OR a certified copy. After you have done these 2 things, you should be able to do the rest in any order. Credit cards, bank accounts, health insurance, car insurance, etc. Each company will have a different procedure for changing your name. They may need you to mail them a copy of your license, you may not.Good luck! It's not as bad as it sounds really :)

For my driver's license I had to have a certified copy.  The original did not work.  I would take both just in case.
