Where do I start first...SSA?? Or is there a name change place I need to go to first-haha!??  TIA!

    You'll hear a bunch of different stories, but this seems to be the safest way.First, SSA. Take your marriage cert. (original OR certified copy).Then, according to the new rules, you have to wait to receive your new SSA card in the mail (takes about 2 weeks) before you can go to MVA. Take your new SSA card (not sure if they want to see it, but it definitely has to be in teh system). And again, take your marriage cert. (original OR certified copy - although I know Tyler had trouble with the original and they made her show the certified copy).Then you can do the rest in any order: credit cards, bank accounts, work, insurance, passport, anything that has your name on it.HTH!!

    Do you mean how long do you have to wait in the SSA office? I went to the one in Columbia. I got there about 5 mins before it opened and I think I still waited about 45 mins. I'm sure it varies widely depending on the office and time of day. You can print out the form you need online and fill it out ahead of time and bring it with you.

    Ditto, SK ... I want to SSA first, fileld out the paperwork, waited til I got the card in the mail and then did MVA, bank, credit card company, doctor's offices, etc etc.

    I went to the SSA office off of Caton Ave in the city a few weeks ago and only waited like 15 towards the end of the day. It took less than they said it would to actually get the card in the mail, maybe a week? I still need to do all the rest of the name change stuff. Ugh.

    Me too. I'm not looking forward to it! I'm flying to California the first week in Oct. so I'll have to wait until I come back to change my license, since I got the tix before the wedding! I went to the SSA office in the Rotunda in NE Baltimore around noon and probably waited 25 minutes.
