Has anyone used the Walter's Art Gallery?

Hi, Has anyone used the Walter's Art Gallery for their reception venue? If so, what was your experience like? Thanks, Leslie

It's BEAUTIFUL!!!  I called in July to get a quote and I believe it was $7,000 for the ceremony/reception rental space (six hours).  I can not remember if that price included tables and chairs.  The event coordinator was very nice! He seemed like somone easy to work with.  I thought about having it there but didn't want to spend that much money just to rent the space.  If you like it and have it, do it! lol! It's beautiful and your guest will be amazed!  :)

I've been mostly looking at places around $5K, so $7K doesn't sound too much worse to me, but perhaps my expectations are a little high? What are most people spending for their venues? We're probably going to use the basilica in Baltimore for the wedding, and that adds $1.5K to the venue budget.

It's very beautiful but their event coordinator is known to be a little difficult.  If no one responds over the weekend with more detail perhaps try again on Monday when the board picks up again.

In regards to what people are spending to rent venue, mine for 5 hours (ceremony/reception) it is $5,300 on a Sat and it includes ceremony chairs , reception tables , and Chiavari chairs. Walters looks really pretty in the photo's I have seen.

I e-mailed the coordinator, who got right back to me tonight surprisingly. The quote he gave me was $5K-$7K, no furniture provided, but we'd get the space for six hours which I feel like is plenty. In terms of the coordinator being difficult; does that mean difficult to get in touch with as needed? Difficult to deal with? A bad attitude? Thanks for your help, everyone!

I've heard/read about difficulty in getting in touch with him, difficulties in getting contracts done, etc.  I'm sure plenty of people have great experiences and it's a beautiful space - but he no showed our initial meeting, which I took as a sign, and remember being thankful that I did when I read about troubles that others were having with him.

Thanks for the information, Ragdolls, I will definitely keep that in mind as we consider the site.

Figured it's better to go in knowing!!  If anything else, it'd be a heads up to stay on them about getting the contract early on, etc.  Don't get me wrong, though - it's an absolutely stunning spot.

I don't have any info to add about Walters, but I just want to say I went to a wedding at the Basilica over a year ago and it was absolutely stunning!

I have reserved the Walter's Art Gallery for my wedding reception next year. I went there to take a look and I think it's absolutely beautiful, and the time (6 hrs with extra setup time up to 3 hrs before) is adequate. I've been in contact with the wedding cordinator.. who doesn't strike me as a difficult person at all.. he's returned my e-mails and phone calls in a timely manner (hopefully I don't eat my words later) and made himself available to me for any advice I might need... They surprisingly put very little restrictions on what you can do... If you're considering it.. I think it's a really good option.
