Newly engaged Knottie with a question

Hi everyone! Although I've been lurking around for awhile, I just got engaged this weekend, so I'm excited to finally be able to post without feeling like a crazy person! :)Anyway, we are thinking about something downtown around this time next year.  I'm looking for venues that are able to accomodate both a ceremony and reception, but have really awesome views, either of the Harbor, or just the city in general.  On my list so far are the Museum of Industry, Tabrizis (formerly Lillies on the Harbor), Hyatt Regency, M&T Bank Statdium, and Renaissance Harborplace.  We'll probably need space for about 175-200 people.  Anyone have any insight/opinions on any of these, especially in regards to their views? Thanks in advance, and can't wait to get more involved in here!

Congrats on the engagement! I myself have no experience with any of those places. I know others here have so you will get some sort of feedback. GL with the search!

I attended a wedding at the BMI, and it was great. Andrea_Lea had her reception at the Admiral Fell Inn, and had a good experience.

Congratulations!  We are having our reception at the World Trade Center on the 21st floor.  The views are incredible, even on a cloudy night.  We are not having the ceremony there, but there is a separate room where you can do that. Pier V also has an outside venue if you wanted an outdoor ceremony.  I loved the idea of having ours at the Museum of Industry, but costs added up there due to all the rentals. Best of Luck!

Congratulations!  I would add the Pier 5 hotel to your list, 1 of their rooms has a nice view. We're having our reception at Pisces in the Hyatt Regency, which I think has one of the best views in the city (I'm a little biased, lol).  However I don't think that it would fit 175-200 guests... we're only expecting 75, I think that their max capacity is somewhere in the 125-150 range, and that would be tight.  Their ballrooms don't have any views.  Good luck!

congrats and welcome!  My sister had her wedding at the Renaissance in the Harbor. They were really great to work with throughout the whole process and the room was beautiful.  I would recommend it!  OH, and the food is delish.

Thanks everyone for the welcome and all of your replies!   Shannondab – The world trade center looks great! I have a few family members that don’t do elevators though, so they would have to be very dedicated to walk up all those stairs for me! J   MereFM99 – I checked out Pier V but I’m not sure it has enough space.  I’ll definitely look more into it though, thanks!  Also, when you were at the Hyatt did you happen to check out their Harborview Room? It looks like it holds up to 200 and still has a decent view.  Also, did you check out their atrium? Apparently people do ceremonies there.    JVeaux – Just from my searching on their homepage, it didn’t look like the Marriott Waterfront had views from their actual ballrooms.  Do you remember which room/whatever you were in with the good views? That would definitely move higher on our list with views! J

Gah! Sorry for the crappy formatting and hard to read text! I wrote in word and cut and pasted so apparently that's not a good idea.  So much to learn!

The only thing I have to add is the food at Tabritzi's is good!! I went there for a bridal shower. It's not huge though, so I don't know what size you are looking for.

Congrats!! I'm getting married at the BMI next year, and am really excited about it. There are a couple of other BMI 2010 brides on here too. The view is gorgeous, and the end of the gallery where the reception would be is all glass. The ceremony has to be outside though-- you would have rent the whole thing (Decker Gallery, Point & Pavilion). The ceremony can be out on the point, or under the pavilion, which has sides that drop down in case of rain. You do have to rent everything so keep in mind with the price of BMI you're really only getting tables, and that is it. The max capacity is 250, so it should be fine. If you get rain, then the cocktail hour can be done inside in the exhibit galleries. Take a day to go look at it! If you want pics, I can send them to you: keer38 at gmail dot com

A bit late on this...had my RD at Tabrizi's. It was wonderful and great views, but I don't think it's quite enough space for 200 people. Well there is space upstairs, but the look isn't nearly as nice up there as it is in the regular restaurant area. You should check it out though. Everyone raved about the food. We got a lot for the money.
