cake suggestions?!

I am getting married in Havre de Grace and I live in Towson.  Any suggestions for places to go to get our cake? I just want something pretty that tastes good but doesn't cost a fortune!

Mary Elliot!! Her cakes are AMAZING. She works out of her home in Timonium and she gets rave reviews here on TK :) I used her for my wedding in June and the cake was unbelievable. Everyone raved about it. Her email is tellgoofy5 AT comcast DOT net. (she's also very affordable, I think like $3.50 a slice)

I don't know if they do wedding cakes, but Graul’s has amazing tasting cake and it pretty inexpensive (I believe).  My cousin went to Charm City Cakes to get a Louis Vuitton purse cake and they wanted so much money for it.  She went to Graul's and the cake was so pretty, you almost didn't want to eat it... but of course we did and it was delicious.

Sugarbakers is delicious but can get very expensive. They start at $4.50 a slice for buttercream and $6.00 a slice for fondant. But it goes up quickly. They do an anniversary cake though so you don't have to freeze your top tier. It's not a replica of your cake in decoration though. I guess y biggest issue was that they charge for tastings if you're having under 75 people. Which I am.

Of course I haven't ordered our cake yet, but we have a consultation with Sweet in Ellicott City next weekend. They do the top tier thing too but it's a replica of your actual cake which I like.

We absolutely loved Sweet, but chose to go with Sue Sontag (www.cakesbysueonline.com) due to price. Sue's cakes were as tasty, but much more reasonably priced for us. Sue is working to create a really unique cake to go with our non traditional theme. I would recommend either of them! I would not recommend the following, as their customer service is lackluster (many, MANY emails and phone calls unreturned): www.justdessertsbylinda.com, Sugar Bakers and Starry Night Bakery (starynightbakery.com). We wanted to try a few places and look at the pricing / taste, but only ended up tasting at Sweet and with Sue. I was very disappointed to have calls and emails repeatedly ignored.

We used Mary Elliott also and absolutely loved working with her from start to finish.  She and her family are so sweet, and her service is so personal.  We got married on my mom's birthday, and she made a special cake for my mom that was designed after a Lilly Pulitzer pattern I e-mailed her... during the reception we had the band call my mom up and DH and I presented her with the cake and a big candle ontop, the band lead everyone in singing happy birthday to ehr and she blew out the candle.  It was a great surprise!

Mary's cakes are absolutely delicious, and she came highly recommended to us from our coordinator at the Tremont, and also I had seen many many (former) knotties on here rave about her.  Her prices are unbeatable, which is even better :)

She is $3.50/slice for buttercream, and $4.50/slice for fondant.
If you choose to have a smaller "display" cake and then sheet cake which the guest's slices are actually cut from, it's actually only $2.50/slice.  We did this, were highly encouraged to do so by our coordinator at the Tremont.  I'm so glad we did, it saved a lot of money and was still just as delicious!
