Wedding Cake help!

Hi Everyone :)
I'm new to the boards. Planning an April 2011 wedding. Mary Elliot is not available for my date. I really need recommendations for a fantatsic cake under $3.50 a slice. Cake is really important to me - but I don't want to break the bank either. Thanks a bunch!

We got our cake from Sweet in Ellicott City.  They were great to work with and the cake came out soooo much better than I could have asked for.  We had a super brightly colored mad-hatter cake, so it was a little 'different' than tradtional and I absolutely loved it.

We get our free anniversary cake this weekend.  I'm so excited.

Where is your reception? I would look at places close by to keep the delivery cost down. I'm also not sure what style cake you're looking for, but a lot of bakers will allow you do to one layer of real cake in your Wedding Cake with decorated boxes or styrofoam on top and have a sheet cake to be cut for your guests. This can save you a few hundred dollars! They decorate the layers in icing and your guests will never know the difference!

Try Cakes by Jeneva. Her cakes are extremely moist, even the anniversary layer a year later. My brothers used her for their weddings so that was who we chose for our April wedding.
Smange.......how old is the dog? It is adorable...we have a 9 1/2 year old black lab.

FYI- the "fake" decorated cakes aren't necessarily any cheaper at all. It's not typically the cake itself that you are paying the big money for, it's the labor that the baker puts into the decorating. A fake cake still needs to be decorated as if it were a real one and will require a similar amount of labor.

The "fake" cake is what my sister and I both did and it kept cost down for us. My baker explained that it costs less because the work can be done in advance. **shrugs**
