Age requirement for flower girls?

Hi everyone...first post on the knot! Just got engaged about 2 weeks ago and have started scouting out churches/reception venues in Baltimore. I have my heart set on a huge beautiful Catholic Church, like Cathedral or Basilica. I am a godmother to my cousin's children, twin girls. They will be about 4 at the time of my wedding. Both the Cathedral & Basilica have rules where they say the flower girls and ring bearers must be over then 5. UGH! Has anyone run into this before? I am going to call and beg but I am wondering if they will budge on this (prob not). Now I am probably going to have to tell my cousin her children can't be in my wedding :(  Any advice??

I have never heard of this before.  My flower girl/ring bearer will both be 3 at my wedding.  I understand that is pretty young however I'm going in with full expectation that they will probably not make it down the isle.  I'm prefectly fine with this, I just wanted them to be involved in my wedding.

Congratulations! How close will the girls be to 5? If their birthday is only a month or two away, the churches might be more lenient. (I'm actually running into the opposite problem because my niece will be 9, which is apparently "too old" for a flower girl.)

I never heard of this either.  What would be the church's reasoning for having an age limit?  Seriously, do they check the birth certificates of your bridal party?  That is totally weird.  There are tons of beautiful Catholic churchs in Baltimore...or try Annapolis too, you'll be able to find one that suits your family if these don't work out.

My flowergirl (niece) was 9 and my ring bearer (nephew) was 7.  I didn't care--I wanted them in my wedding.

Welcome and congratulations! I've also never heard of this rule, either...  I really hope your twin godchildren will be able to be in the ceremony!

    Congrats!
At my Catholilc church I wasn't given an age requirement and my flowergirl is 2 1/2. Just like a pp I don't expect much from her but hopefully she will make it down the aisle.
