Help with reception music... what are all of you lovely brides thinking of using?

I need some help with the music for our reception AND I would love to hear what other brides are doing :) We really want to use music that isn't over done at weddings.

Hi I need a song for our wedding party to enter the reception to. My FI and I are entering to "Lean Me Right" by Mumford and Son's with Birdy... the version of "Not w/ Haste" for Disney's Brave.

My FI and I are really into country/bluegrass/folk music. We are having a live band and they are willing to learn a few songs but we want to stick with this genre because it's what they can do well.

Any ideas???

The other music for the for the reception is:

First Dance;  When God Made You (Natalie Grant & Newsong)

Father Daughter: Then They Do (Trace Adkins)

Mother Son: probably you raise me up (Celtic women version) but they haven't really decided, they can't find anything they are really happy with... suggestions???

Brother Sister (my brother and I are really close so I want to have a dance dedicated to him where we can dance together but not kick everyone off the dance floor): You've got a Friend in Me (toy story). I feel like this is a little cheesy so if anyone has any other suggestions I would love to hear them!

Bouquet Toss: Redneck Women (Gretchen Wilson)... I'm the first of my friends to get married and most of my friends are excited about the Bouquet toss.

Garter Toss: James Bond Theme

Last Dance: Home (Philip Philips)

Re: Help with reception music... what are all of you lovely brides thinking of using?

  • Hello! We are all about music and our DJ is actually one of our friends so that's a massive help. We also made a list of Must Plays and Absolutey Do Not Play and actually making the do not play helped more than making a must play list. Lol anyway our songs so far are

First Dance: Free (Into the Mystic) by Zac Brown Band -- we love both of these songs and love that Zac Brown band has a song where he features Into the Mystic

Father Daughter Dance: Teach Your Children by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young -- has a lot of signifigance for my dad and I.

Mother Son Dance: Forever Young by Bob Dylan -- think the theme song from the TV show Parenthood

Boquet Toss: This is where I'm having problems. I do NOT want Single Ladies. I think that is like..calling too much attention. I thought it would be funny to have So What by Pink because a lot of the single girls there are divorced. I'm not 100% sure yet.

Garter Toss: You Can Leave Your Hat On by Joe Cocker-- LOVE this song. Espcially since my FH is insisting he removes my garter with his teeth.

Cake Cutting: I have absolutey no idea.

Last Song: Book of Love by Peter Gabriel. Beautiful song. Love it.

Some of the must plays are
Woman Like You by Lee Brice
    Crazy Love by Van Morrison
    Tonight by Fun
    Marry You by Bruno Mars
    Marry Me by Train
    Songbird by Fleetwood Mac
Tiny Dancer by Elton John (every time this song comes on and I'm with my friends EVERYONE sings along at the top of their lungs...I always feel like I'm in Almost Famous)

Some of the DO NOT PLAY include
Everything I do by Bryan Adams (waaay too overdone)
Everything by Michael Buble (again waaay too overdone)
    Any and all disco
Any and all group dance songs (ie chicken dance...shudder)
    Going to the Chapel

As far as your dance with your brother...I'm not sure! Maybe just a song you both really enjoy? Any memories of just singing along with him to something? Maybe when you were kids? I would honestly suggest making the do not play list and see where you come up! Hope I helped a little!

  • We are doing a range of genres for music. Not much going to be set for dances except for two key pieces. I will walk down the aisle to a James Galway song (forget the name now, but it is a waltz). Our first dance is going to be by the Civil Wars, Tip of Your Tongue. We also liked dance me to the end of love by them. They are a good bluegrass band.

  • I havent really thought about music yet, but I will be walking down the ailse to a string quartet version of my favorite ACDC song. I am excited to see if anyone will recognize it as ACDC or not :p
  • Our music choices so far, not in stone yet. We do have a harpist for the ceremony.

    Processional: Canon in D
Bridal Processional: Wedding March (Traditional "Here Comes The Bride" on the harp)
Recessional: Can't decide between My Girl or Here Comes The Sun. Our harpists Here Comes The Sun sounds amazing, and although My Girl is my favorite song, I am not sure guests will be able to hear what the song is...

    Entrance:
Parents: Sweet Child of Mine - Guns & Roses
Bridal Party: TBD. Possibly Twist & Shout - Beatles.
Us: Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison

First Dance: Can't Help Falling In Love - Elvis
Father/Daughter: This has been my hardest to chose so far...In My Life - Beatles or Shine on you Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd (a shorter version)
Mother/Son: TBD. Probably something Billy Idol, FMIL loves him.

Cake Cutting: Grow Old With You - Adam Sandler =)
Garter Removal/Toss: Whatta Man - Salt n Pepa
Bouquet Toss: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper

Last Song: When You Wish Upon A Star - Cliff Edwards
