rehersal dinner time

do you think 5:30 is too early for a rehersal dinner?  does 6pm work better?

It depends.  Is the rehearsal dinner during the week?  Are you practicing at the church/ceremony site before hand?  If the answer to both of these questions are yes then I would say it is definitely too early because people would have to take off work early.  But, if your RD guests are already planning on taking that day off work or don't work late then it might not matter.

We are starting our rehearsal at 5:30 and then having dinner at a nearby location starting at 7:00.  They are allowing us a "social time" beforehand, and we are planning on being there by 6:30 at the latest, but this gave us the option of taking a little more time at rehearsal if we needed to.  We are also having our rehearsal on Thursday so that we won't all be so rushed on Friday. (since we are doing our own decorating at both the church and the hall, etc.)  Hope this helps. :-)
