~Marriage License Info~

I was wondering if anyone has gotten their marriage license? We are getting married in St. Louis County and I was curious as to where we had to go to get out marriage license and what we all had to bring with us. Thanks Ladies!

You go to the recorder of deeds office in Clayton...41 South Central Drive...It's on the 4th floor.  You'll need your driver's license and social security card and they only take cash for the actual license.  http://revenue.stlouisco.com/Common/Faq.aspx#MarLicenseNeedHere's the website that gives you all the info.Hope this helps!

I don't have a social security card.  Do you know if they will take either a passport or birth certificate?

You need proof of your social security number.  They'll take your driver's license if your license number is your social security number.  If not you may want to go to the social security office and get a card.  I have no idea how long that takes though.

The website that was provided does have a contact number to the marriage license dept. I called a few weeks ago and in the state of missouri you can go to anywhere in the state to get your marriage license.. it doesn't matter where you live or where your ceremony site is (I live in the city but i'm getting married in the county so i'm getting my downtown) Also, you have 30 days from when the license is issued to get married and send it back in to the state. I spoke to two different people on the phone at the m. license dept and they told me two different things. When you go in to get your license do you leave with it that day? Or do you have to wait 3 days and go pick it up?

You can leave with it that day. The 3 day waiting period ended a few years ago.

The people I talked to and the websites I read said that you have to get your license in the county you live in. I called St. Louis City because it was going to be more convenient, and they said at least one of us had to be a city resident...

cheerbear: that doesn't even make sense. my fiance and i are residents of illinois and getting married in st louis city. so obviously we aren't even residents of any county in missouri.
