Just Venting

I do not understand spending over a few thousand dollars on a wedding dress. I mean, yes, it is the most special day of yur life, and you want to remember it forever, but that few thousand dollars could make a great honeymoon also. To me, a super expensive dress is just a status symbol. I found a gorgeous Maggie Sottero dress that looks like it could be sold at Kleinfeld's, but I surely did not spend over $1300 on it. I am so tired of hearing friends and acquaintances oohing and ahhing over dresses that cost thousands of dollars and turning up their nose at mine because it was "cheap and inexpensive". Yes, the dress is important, but it's not the most important part of your day.

Amen sister! lolThat's always been my opinion on wedding dresses.. or really any fancy dress. Prom dresses especially. They're generally a dress you wear ONCE because typically girls don't want to be caught wearing the same dress to a homecoming or prom twice in a row. But back to wedding dresses..My friend Katie recently got engaged and since she asked me to be the Maid of Honor I went dress shopping with her. We wen to one place, and guess where that was. A cosignment shop. That's right, she got her dress that's some designer I can't remember the name of for $300. When we showed it to a bridal shop owner when we were looking for bridesmaid dresses she said that Katie got a deal because the dress was originally about $1100. The previous girl who bought it never picked it up or finished payments nor did she wear it and Katie looks amazing in it.So I don't think it's the price that matters..sure more expensive dresses have more sparkles or embroider on them or may even be a fancier fabric but that's definitely not what everyone will be looking at for long on the big day. I'd say you should ignore then or ask when they'd be shelling out the money to buy that 4 grand dress that you'll wear once. But that's just me smart-a** side lol As long as you like the dress then no one else's opinion should matter.

I hear ya girl!  I got mine from DB for about $250 and I love it.  I totally would have got one cheaper than that if I could have found one that fit me well and looked nice on me.  haha!  Trust me -  I was checking prices the entire time I was trying on.  To each their own I guess.  =)  Anyway, try not to let it get to you.

I agree... I think spending that much on a dress is really unnecessary.  I bought mine for $200 at Nordstrom, and I love it! Bridal stores are crazy expensive.  Couldn't be happier with my purchase!

We got mine at David's for about $600, which was still more than I wanted to really spend.  I haven't even worn it yet and everyone that has seen it has been awed by it.  I never EVER would have spent more than a grand on my dress, and it would have been pushing it to go above $750.  Course, I only tried on three dresses, too.  I didn't feel the need to play pretty princess dress up for three hours and waste some poor consultants time.  I think I'm just unusual as far as brides go.  LoL
