Reception Sites?

I'm looking for less expensive (less than $10K!!) reception venues that aren't cheesy banquet halls!  Looking for October 2012 wedding around St. Louis area.  Any recommendations would be wonderful!!

You should look at the Cedars. Its a banquet hall, but its a really nice one! I didnt want a banquet hall either, but the Cedars is a great price and big (were having at least 300) and with the uplighting and chair covers its a beautiful room. Its worth a look!

I'm looking into the thaxton speakeasy. Its a unique spot 1500 rental fee drinks and such are listed on their website also a list of their preferred caterers. I also hear the zoo is very reasonably priced and have their own caterers. There are a lot of unique spaces around st louis if you know where to look! Also the soulard neighborhood has many places

the zoo is a good value, but not inexpensive. With service fee, it's almost $70/person for the lowest end entrees, but there is no sales tax, and it includes the cake, alcohol, coctail hour, and they have lots of linen color choices.

I know what you mean. It's so hard to find something reasonably priced that isn't cheesy. Under $10K is doable at a few places, depending on how many people you're having. We're doing our reception at the Xavier Ballroom. It's definitely going to be over $10K for us, but we've invited a lot of people. Russo's is the exclusive caterer so we don't have to pay all the fees to bring someone in, plus a lot of stuff is included.

The Edge of Webster looks nice. The rental fee is cheap. It would depend on your caterer on how much it will really cost you. http://www.theedgeofwebster.com/

The Lemp Grand Hall is a beautiful venue. Plus, its only $35 per head before the service charges. http://www.lempmansion.com/banquets.html

I went to a wedding at the Forest Park Golf Course. It was beautiful and the food was delicious. I'm not sure what their pricing is, but I know that my friends were keeping within their budget there. http://www.forestparkgc.com/layout9.asp?id=186&page=5136

Also, here's a caterer who looks super reasonable: http://www.cateringyourwaybylisa.com/

I don't know how far you are willing to travel, but I just received information on Old Hickory Golf CLub.  Its very reasonable if you customized your package.

Also, thanks for the reception sites ladies.  I'm in the beginning stages too, and I received a little bit of a disappointment in my first choice (St. Charles Convention Center).  These suggestions are helping me immensely. :)

I chose the River Bottom Saloon which is owned by Patty Long Catering which has other venue options as well.  I also didn't just want a banquet hall, and this place is pretty non-traditional in that it has a more lodge-like decor with a large bar area filled with bar games.  I think it holds up to 300 people and so far the person I've worked with has been super responsive and professional.  It's also budget friendly-$500 rental fee and I think there is a $2k minimum spend on drinks and food. I wanted my whole reception to be under $8k and they worked with that.  We're actually even having our ceremony there too, then a cocktail hour, buffet dinner, and open bar for around 175 people.

How many guests? And do you have a preference for what part of St. Louis?

Ladies thank you all for the feedback!!  We're looking at 140 guests, we both live in South County but have family all over the St. Louis area.  We're pretty flexible with location.
