Unique Reception!

Hi Ladies!

I'm hoping some of you can help me. My FI and I are getting married on October 22, 2011, and are looking for a reception site.

We'd like something unique, not your typical banquet hall reception, but something that also isn't going to cost an arm and a leg per person. I'd prefer for it to be close-ish to where we live, so I'm thinking no further than Hwy 40 if you're coming from South County. Downtown/Cityish would also work.

Also, our guest list is anywhere from 150-200ish people.

Thoughts?

Well this might not be much help based on your location...however, my fiance and I will be getting married at RiverBend Chapel in Washington, MO. You are allowed the option to wed outside overlooking the MO river, or inside in the chapel that can sit up to 300. The reception will also be held there, the catering is great, you get a day of wedding coordinator, and so far we have been super impressed with Tony who worked with to specialize our day.

Just wanted you to be aware of this unique location...my finace and I had similar requirements when we were looking for a location for our wedding.

Hope this helps!! Let us know what you choose!!! :)

We are having our wedding and reception at sqwires! This place is nothing like the same banquet halls. Bethany the owner is phenoniminal and is really going to make my day amazing. The plus is, they will not try to rip you off. The food is amazing and she will work with any budget. Good luck, I know this is a very tough decision.

We had our wedding and reception at the St Louis Zoo, and it was fantastic!  The rental fee for the space was $1500 (we paid an additional $300 for doing the ceremony there too), much cheaper than most other places we looked at, and included set-up and clean-up.  The catering costs worked out to around $30/person (including open bar) and they do it on site so you don't have to bring in your own.  Plus, as a non-profit, they don't charge sales tax, which saves you a couple of hundred dollars easily.  And the best part is, you get to tell everyone your wedding is at the Zoo!  Overall, the location, dinner, and open bar for 4 hours cost us around $5000 for a wedding of 100 people.  Check out the website:  http://www.stlzoo.org/events/rentthezoo. We had the Lakeside Cafe, and it looked nothing like it does during the day.

As a bonus, the staff at the Zoo are a dream to work with.  Jason Moder is the contact (moder@stlzoo.org), and he truly went above and beyond.  He answered all of my questions promptly, he was very organized and on the ball, and he even had the table cards that I'd done by hand (that looked _terrible_) printed by the Zoo at no cost to me.  Probably best of all, they don't nickel and dime you--if you want a cake table, a sweetheart table, a gift table, whatever, that's what you get at no additional charge.  I highly recommend looking into the Zoo.

We had 165 and got married at the Orpheum Theater downtown.  It was really beautiful and totally unique- people are still telling us/ our parents how great the location was and how smoothly everything went.

We did ceremony and location there- got married on stage while family and friends sat in the balcony level, then had the reception on the floor level and dancing on stage.

The catering was mid range, but the rental on the venue wasn't bad (also $1500), so it really made up for it.

I am getting marrried at Scape in the CWE. There are no room fees, you just pay for food and drink.  They have a huge courtyard in back, and then a loft like room upstairs.  Its really close to the Chase and being in the CWE there are lots of more city like locations for pictures.  Good luck!
