Afforrdable Spas/shellac/pedi places???

It's about the 6 month mark until our wedding and I wanted to start my beauty regimen. I'm looking for affordable facial spas and mani/pedi places in the area that do shellac.

Are you looking for a specific area? I like the salon/spa at Nordstroms for facials. Shellac or any of the other gel polishes are harsh on your nails. I'd recommend not doing it on a regular basis. Just try it out and then get it done for your wedding. I really liked the OPI Axxium I had done at Velvet Nail Lounge on Big Beaver/John R. Shellac (CND) brand has less gel and more polish, IMO, it didn't last as long or look as nice. OPI Axxium has the highest amount of gel. ETA: there are groupons practically every other day for mani/pedis (most include gel).

Try calling the local beauty college.  It's the senior students that do the work under the supervision of instructors.  I go to the Michigan Colllege of Beauty on Rochester Road just north of 16 Mile/Big Beaver in Troy.  I've had manicures (don't know if they do gel but I'm sure they do) and had eyebrow/lip waxing.  No appointment is needed but they do not provide services on Mondays and are closed on Sunday.

For facials, I really like the Aveda Institute in Royal Oak. It's a school, so it's cheap (and no tipping). I've had facials there and one other place, and my skin had the worst reaction at the other salon. Aveda uses natural ingredients and they don't do anything invasive (like the crazy blackhead picking thing that some facialists do!), so it's a lot gentler.
