Good and Quiet Restaurant in the Northville/Novi Area?

Hello Detroit brides--

I'm a Korean, and in my culture, when parents are first introduced to each other, it is quite a formal occassion. They usuallly meet over lunch or dinner and talk about the wedding (such as who's paying for what, the "gifts" they want to exchange, etc.). It's a bit geared toward the "business" of the wedding, but it is also getting to know each other.

In Korea, they would usually meet in a restaurant where there is a private room set-up for 6-8 people. Unforunately, there is no Korean restaurant in the area with a private room, so we just need to go to a non-Korean restaurant, which is fine with me. Do you know of any good restaurant that has a private room for 6-8 people in the Northville/Novi area? Or any restaurant that would be quite enough for such a formal occasion? I'd hpoe the price range is rather reasonable, but we can spend probably around $300 to $500 for a party of 7. Oh, BTW, we typically don't go to one of the side's place for this occasion. Even if people do it, both of our parents are live out-of-state and are all staying at each of our apartments, which I want to avoid..

Any recommendations would be helpful! Thanks!

  • I sort of understand the Korean customs, my husband was in the Air Force and his wife before me was a Korean woman he met when he was there.

The Claddagh Irish Pub in Livonia has some smaller private rooms. We were in one once that I think seats up to 10 around a very large round table. There is no door to close, so while open, you are all facing each other.

When I was planning our honeymoon, I used Tripadvisor.com for restaurant and hotel reviews. Here's the page for Novi:

    http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g42538-Novi_Michigan.html

By going through the list of restaurants you can get to their websites and see if they have private rooms.

Good luck and congrats on your engagement!
  • Novi Chophouse is upscale and very quiet (music and light talking) but they have a strict dress code and its VERY pricey There is a private room as well , I had my birthday there two years ago (as a surprise) and I was baffled that I had to pay 3.00 per person for CAKE cutting!! LOL I said cant I cut it myself then? Was mortified when they opted to split the bill :(

across the street at The Baronette Novi is their in house Michigan only restaurant Toasted Oak Grill , but I have seen their private dining room. Nice. (Not as pricey)

Less formal but  has a private dining room is Cafe Cortina ($$$$$) in Farmington Hills but very close to Novi area

  • Thanks for your recommendations!

I've been to the Irish Pub and love their food, but not sure how my parents will take it. If it was just for me, I'd go there. LOL

Just looked at the website for Cafe Cortina - looks like a lovely place. Only if I coulld have my reception at their outdoor patio! I think I'll check out Baronette Novi. I've been to NoVI Chophouse, and I was also baffled that the bill for a party of 4 people was over $300. The food and service were really good, but not sure about the bill. =(

    Thanks for your opinions ladies!

  • I second Toasted Oak. Amazing food.

  • The Courthouse Grille (formerly Ernestos) in Plymouth has some very intimate private rooms (ask for the 3rd floor) and the menu is varied $10-$30 a plate.
  • I went to Shiro Japanese Steakhouse a few weeks ago for my FSIL's birthday. It was my first time there and I was pretty impressed. The restaurant used to be a house, so you can call and reserve a 'room' for your lunch/dinner if you want.

  • I second Shiro and also want to add Fleming's to the list.  They have a private room as well.

  • I second the Courhouse Grill in Plymouth.  We had our Rehursal dinner there.  The food was good, the place was nice and could be very quiet and formal.
