Announcing Wedding in Paper

Does anyone know who to contact (and if it is even possible) to have an announcement made in the Detroit Free Press (or the Plymouth Observer)?

Hmm, I'm not really sure about either of those but I just wanted to let you know to be cautious, especially if you are going to put it in the Detroit News...

I know someone who's parents were robbed the day of the wedding and they believe it was because of the wedding annoucement they put in the newspaper. People know that anyone involved in the wedding (especially parents) will be gone for the majority of the day making them easy targets to rob. There was also an article about it on The Knot not too long ago (or maybe it was and I just feel like it was yesterday). There's tons of people that buy the Detroit News. I would say if you were wanting to put an annoucement in the newspaper, to go with the Plymouth newspaper.

I agree with PP.  I would highly advise against putting it in the paper.  It only opens up your home and your families homes to be broken into the day of your wedding.  Unless you have neighbors you trust enough to be there instead of at your wedding, I would nix the idea all together.

If you are going to put it in the paper, do something vague like "Jack and Jill are getting married in June 2011."  Don't put the exact date.

I was actually thinking about doing ours after the wedding, for the reasons mentioned above.  and - funny you ask, the Detroit News & Free Press had an insert in this past weekends paper about their new celebrations section, which will run on Saturdays.  I haven't looked yet, but the link is: michigan.com/celebrations

My parents were the ones robbed on our wedding night...Uck!!!

I'm all for putting it in the paper...but don't give the details!!!!

"Jack & Jill are getting married Fall 2011 in Detroit" kind of thing.

Ohhhh how I wish i could do it all over again!
