Bridals???

A bunch of girls on my month board have been posting there bridal pictures? I have never heard about these before. I was just curious if any of my Michigan girls were doing them.

  • I have no idea what a bridal picture is other then pictures of the bride.  How are they different from pictures on the day of?  Aren't you a June 9th bride?  How do they already have bridal pictures?  I'm confused...

  • I think it's a southern thing.  From what I understand, prior to the wedding they get all dolled up in their dress to have pictures taken.  I don't really understand why they do it.  But I think they do it as a present to their FI.  Not 100% sure though.  I just find it odd!

  • Yeah I was thinking about that Lauren. I'd never heard of them until TK. I don't know anyone in Michigan who's done them.

  • I kinda feel about bridals like I do about boudoir.

Great. I take these pictures and they are fun and people look through them once (or FI) and then it's like what do you do with them? I'm not going to put a picture of myself out in our living room or up on a wall.

Boudoir I understand a little more but again it just seems like a bit of a waste of money to me.

  • Yes, I  think it is a Southern thing.  I grew up in Michigan (wedding is in Michigan) but I live in South Carolina.  A bunch of my friends here have asked me if/when I'm doing bridal portraits..Like many of you, I'd never heard of it and I don't plan on doing them!!

  • I think they are pretty lame. Considering most photographers set some time aside on the actual wedding day for bridal pictures of just the bride. Honestly though too, it comes across as a little self absorbed to have engagement pictures, boudoir pictures, bridal pics, wedding pics...how many pictures do you need?! I understand the point of epics, boudoir, and wedding pics, but I think bridal pics are completely unnecessary.

  • Yeah, I think it's regional, too. I'd never heard of them before TK.

I suppose in theory I see the point from a logisitcal standpoint. You get shots of you in your dress on your wedding day, by doing it ahead of time, you have one less thing to try to work into a packed day.

But, I don't feel like you need to schedule a separate session to get those shots and get all gussied up and risk having something happen to your dress. But, I'm pretty minimalist like that. I love photos and felt our wedding photos were very important, as well as our e-pics, but I could give a sh*t about boudoir pics, trash the dress pics, etc. etc.

I like the e-pics because they're nice pics of us in regular clothes and I like the wedding pics because they're from the wedding. Why do you need anything more than that?

  • I definitely understand why people do it (I wish I had more photos of me in my dress, when I was NOT stressed) but still think it's a waste of money.

Personally, I haven't said "Oh look at our wedding pictures!" to any guests in our home, and we have 2 leather-bound albums. People (girls) sometimes notice them and ask if they can look through them, which I don't care but I don't go out of my way to show them to people. DH's family has asked us to bring them to family get togethers and sometimes I forget to but other times I just purposely leave them at home because I feel awkward "Here! Look at photos of ME"

    To each their own, though.

Sounds like a waste of money to me -- why would you pay for another photography session in addition to e-pics and wedding pics?? Silly.

  • My FI is southern and now that I think of it, his family down south did these and I remember thinking how odd it was. At the reception she had all these poster sized pictures of herself in her gown and what not, very strange to me. So no, I will not be doing these. I want pictures of the day I am a bride, not a random day I was playing dress up! lol

I'm not doing it and didn't really get the point to spend the money on just more pics of me.  Plus my photographer does a good number the day of.
