Creative Burnout

So, all in all I have been all over wedding planning. I've been super excited to create centerpieces, sort-of design my own invitations on zazzle, raid Joanne's for decorations and googling ever more fun ways to create the perfect atmosphere at the wedding. But now I feel burned out out the details. I just dont feel like coming up with an ingenious design for table numbers. Maybe I just spend too much time looking at websites, but I feel like am am expected to. anybody getting anything like this? Just wanted to share.

Re: Creative Burnout

  • Table numbers & placecards are two things that I just didn't feel like putting too much effort into myself, so I've hired Suzie at Color Bar Creative to do it for me.  Her work is AMAZING and as far as I'm concerned, she's pretty reasonably priced for what she's doing for me.  I'd suggest looking into her if you want to take some weight off your shoulders and let someone else to the work!  I know others who have used her, so I trust that she'll do a good job.   http://www.colorbarcreative.com/index2.php

  • I get creative burnout all the time because I actually work in a creative industry. I find what helps is to switch projects around. I got burned out working on my invitations so I switched to working on binding my guestbook. When I get done with the guestbook I'll revisit the invites. If the guestbook becomes tedious I'll switch to making paper flowers or do some freelance work.

If it's not fun for you, don't force yourself to work on it. You may find yourself get inspired for it in the near future.

  • I planned my wedding, and ergo my DIY projects, over an 18 month period. Things like table numbers, RB pillow, FG floral pomander were things that weren't going to change, and didn't matter how far in advance I did them, so I did them early.

Take a breather, and I agree with the above, switch out your projects. I'm the anal type that if I started something I HAD to finish it, but there were things that took longer (invitation formatting/printing) that I did in spurts.........first figured out the formatting for the invitations, then later did the map cards, then later did the formatting on the RSVP cards, etc.

There is no reason to feel guilty about taking your time...............the reason is that there are things you may complete, then you'll see something later that makes better sense. In my case I did the card box REALLY early........later I realized a bird cage would have been better, because I could have re-used it somehow. Now I have 2 card boxes made from paper mache  attached to each other that serve no purpose.
