Mayan Riviera

Has anyone been? If so, where did you stay? We are torn between that and Jamaica for our HM.

We honeymooned at El Dorado Seaside Suites. It was perfect. We'd go back to the Mayan Riviera in a heartbeat.

We stayed at the Barcelo resorts (Maya Palace).  It really was awesome.  I would absolutely recommend it!  Very relaxing, which is exactly what we needed.

I haven't been to either Jamaica or the Mayan Riveria but my aunt works at a travel agency and has been many places as a result.  She has recommended the Mayan Riveria to us for our honeymoon but advised against Jamaica.  I get the impressioin that we could get more for our money in Mexico and we got the impression that Mexico would be a little safer.  Of course the resorts are almost always safe but if you leave the resort....

Like I said, I haven't been to either place - just my aunts impressions.  Good luck!

Ditto for Barcelo Maya -- we stayed on the Colonial side! We loved it, the food in the nice dining room was really good (they even had good peking duck one night), service was great -- we loved our housekeeping lady we spoke a little Spanish to her (tried haha) and she treated us very well!
We went to Xel Ha (which is freshwater wildlife preserve with lots of swimming and dolphins etc) and also Tulum. There's also buses which will take you to Playa del Carmen for shopping.

Loved the Riviera! Info in my bio about where I stayed and my trips, but the resort was Excellence Cancun.
  •  MY friend did the El Dorado Royal   ( sister resort to the seaside one mentioned above)  It was AWESOME!  I seen the photos. we would like to go there ourselves.  she said its a resort for adults so there are no kids running around.  Swim up bars, they had the casita infinity pool suite on the upper level... OMG! Breathtaking!  there are several places to eat at. lots of entertainment ..  looked amazing!   One great idea for any honeymooner I learned from her... ask the local resort photographer if he would like to work on the side for american dollars.  They more than likely will. They get paid to take a few dinner photos and the resort of course gets a cut.  They asked the resort photographer to take photos of them on the beach and around the resort they paid 100 up front and the other 100 when the photos were given ( Be sure its clear you get them before you leave the country lol ) and he followed them around for 2 or 3 days a hour or so at a time and took over 300 photos easily ...  very very well done.  Made note to self for our future honeymoons.   We want this same place or possibly bora bora if we can fit it in the budget.
