Conservative Dress

Where is a good place in Columbus to get a conservative dress on a budget of around 300. I am having a Roman Catholic wedding and want to cover my tattoos and flabby parts with fabric not makeup

Re: Conservative Dress

  • Wendy's on Sawmill and Henri 's Cloud Nine on Sancus (right near Polaris) carry Allure, which has a modest line. You might have to call them and see if they carry anything like that. There's also a line called Temple from Venus (and I think Wendy's might have that too). http://www.venusbridal.com/bridals/temple-bridal
They're probably more than 300, but might have a sale or clearance rack.

J-Crew has a few with sleeves, and I seem to recall seeing at least one with full, long sleeves. If you're comfortable with lace sleeves, I've seen a few things at David's that might work. I also know that you can order online from places that cater to LDS, but I understand if you don't want to order online. Other options could be adding sleeves to a dress, a good seamstress should be able to do that, and if you get a dress that has straps already, it wouldn't look like an after thought, or you could look at bolero options.

My final option (the one I looked into really strongly) is to look at vintage clothes and patterns. I found a few on e-bay, but the sizes are TINY, so it wasn't an option for me. The patterns might work, especially if you know someone who's a seamstress. I've found that conservative is really hard to find.

  • Adding to SAACJW's great ideas--you could also have a bolero made that matches the material of your dress.  I have seen some really pretty ones.

  • I am scared to death to order online. I have heard soo many horror stories. Considering I typically have jeans tailored to fit my body it scares me to death. Outside of this my planning is awesome. My inner girl hasn't come out in the dress part yet.
  • Ordering online is fine if you are careful with measurements and use repudtable sites. I know a lot of the LDS sites are good- brick and mortar stores that are located in Utah and they give detailed measurements charts for sizing, meaning that when you order, assuming you do it correctly, you'll be making the same alterations as if you were buying from a local store. The wedding attire board has info on what to look for to spot a fake dress store.

Don't worry about your inner girl, the dress isn't as big of a deal to everyone. Yay that your planning has been awesome!
