Detroit Wedding Reception - please help =)

Hi everyone! I am newly engaged and stuck between 2 venues! Has anyone heard about/held orattended a reception at the Atheneum Hotel. I cannot find any reviews on the hotel and it is a HUGE decision (as you all know). The other location is the Greektown Hotel - Anything would be more than helpful!! Thank you!!

I have never attended a wedding at the Atheneum, but I did attend a "ball" with one of my friends who was in law school.  His school held one there every year.  It was basically the same as a wedding reception...food, drinks, DJ, etc.  I do remember the food being absolutely delicious.  We had fillet and chicken and both were very good.  From what I remember, it was a really nice place - pretty ballrooms, nice bathrooms, and great service.  The hotel rooms were nice too, but I remember thinking that they could use a little updating.  This was about 4 or 5 years ago, so I'm not sure if things have changed since then.  Overall, I thought it was a great place and I looked into it for my own wedding, but it was too pricey for our budget.  Hope that helps!

I looked into the Atheneum, but thought the decor was not to my liking and how hard it was to get to the ballroom did not get me excited. DetroitGirl08 (I think) is having her reception at the Greektown Casino hotel though!

Thanks everyone! The decor in the Atheneum is dated and although they renovated the rooms in January, they are still not what they should be. My only thing with Greektown is that fact that the ballroom is SO TINY. We are only having 150 but I cannot figure out where the tables will be and be able to put in the dj and dance floor. Also, the ceiling is so low, only 14 ft, it makes me feel claustrophobic =(

Yeah, the Atheneum is gorgeous but also too pricey for me in this economy....they are very attentive and provided great service throughout my inquiry, which I thought was awesome. I think depending on whether you will be having children at the wedding. Most of the casino hotel venues have some types of restrictions with regards to children in the hotel/casino and it can be very loud and smoky.
