Hotel blocks????

Hi ladies,

Which downtown Cbus hotels are you using for your hotel blocks? We are thinking Holiday Inn since its almost walking distance to our venue, and are considering Crowne Plaza, Renaissance, or Hyatt Regency as our 2nd option. Anyone ever stayed there or are using them?

We did a hotel black through the Renaissance and stayed there our wedding night. The room was beautiful, the staff was pleasant, the cost was reasonable, and breakfast in Latitude 41 the next morning was very good.

How early should you get your hotel blocks? We are using holiday inn because they shuttle to our venue.

We are using the Holiday Inn Downtown.  Wedding is next month, I started calling in October, and a lot of hotels were already blocked up, and couldn't accomodate my block.  There's apparently a "floral convention" that weekend that booked up way too much of the city hotels.  So.....it all kind of depends on what's going on that weekend.  Send some feelers our ASAP.

We are also using Holiday Inn. Since our wedding is NYE, our options were more limited because many of the hotels have events going on.

@tiffanydaniels - we liked that the holiday inn had a shuttle also, but did you know it only holds 14 people? we were hoping to use it for transportation at the end of the night, but were disapointed to find out it was so small.

@tiffanydaniels: My wedding is in 11 months, and only 8 out of the 12 downtown hotels have availability. You can contact Experience Columbus and tell them your date and they will do most of the work for you, but they recommend doing them a year out because the hotels book up so quickly for conventions, etc.

Thanks for the other suggestions girls! I too did not know the shuttle only held 14. Thats a disappointment. I will definitely be calling the Renaissance!

We're doing out block at the Westin since its so close to our venue. We got really reasonable rates and they were very easy to work with. I've only had a 6 month engagement and I booked out hotel block about 4 months out and was fine.

    Ok another question.

We have a lot of OOT guests and will probably need 40-45 rooms the night of the wedding. Should I ask each hotel (we are going to use 2) to block off 25 rooms? Or more?

I would talk it through with your hotel. We blocked off 50 rooms, but we have until 2 weeks before the wedding to change it, so if we don't use them all, we can just cancel the rest. We can also add more at any time. I think different hotels have different policies on canceling the blocked rooms.

What does a hotel block do? I do realize the rooms are discounted.
How do you get a hotel block?
    Does it cost anything?
How do you determine, how many rooms you need?
