NWR: FB Question

On your facebook, can you see the pages of people that you are not 'friends' with? If I try and look at someone's page that isn't already my friend, all I can see is a page that has their profile photo and a note that tells me if I want to view their page, to add them as a friend. But, other people can go onto pages of people they're not 'friends' with and view status updates and such. I'm confused as to why they can and why I can't? Not something I'm losing sleep over, just don't get it...

It all depends on your privacy settings.I went to CMU; sometimes I can access different people who attended CMU facebook just because they allow that.Othertimes, I have to add them as a friend in order to see anything more than their picture..friends i have in common.Maybe, the people that can access these friends have something in common: workplace, same college, etc...and the person's privacy setting allows them to view information.HTH

You can set your privacy settings to private so only your friends can see your profile. I decided to do this after college because I didn't need potential employers scoping out my page and looking at pics. Just remember, even though you may not have any incriminating pics on your profile, your friends might and their profiles could be public. So I just decided to make mine private altogether.

What she said! The setting is not something you did, it's with the people's profile that you're looking at. They have their privacy settings a certain way that you don't fit into the people they allow to see that information. For example, you can limit by to just your friends, your network, your friends friends, or special lists that you make. Like I have a limited profile list of friends that are only allowed to see pieces of my profile (not pictures) and anyone who is not my friend can only see what you described. HTHs

Ohhh, hmmm...I get it. Well, since my friend and I both tried to access the same person's page, they must have it set up so that my friend has access to it but I don't. haha...maybe I've been blocked! That also makes me think that maybe I should go in there and re-set mine as well so that not just anyone can view my page either! So, if you're interested in getting all the dirt on me, do it before I get home tonight! lol Thanks, ladies!

Yep - I think I have mine set as private as I can (I did this with myspace too) so nobody on my friends list can see my info, pictures, status, etc.

Is there a chance that your friend was in that person's "network" and you weren't?
