For Chicago people -- hand canceling

I also posted this on the Chicago board but thought I'd share my story here, too. I think there might be at least a couple folks from Chicago on the Detroit board.I visited the post office on Clinton and Lake and asked about hand canceling, but the woman said no post office is allowed to do it and she couldn't help me. Lame. I started calling post offices in the area and happened to accidentally call the location I had just visited. A lovely woman named Danielle said she would be happy to hand cancel them for me and to just come in and ask to speak to her. Just thought I'd share! Clinton and Lake! Danielle! Actually, she told me her name is MISS Danielle. So funny.

I ran across this here too. It's stupid. Just beware, they may say they will to your face, and then not do it.

@alarthame: I was concerned about that and was surprised when she stamped them all in front of me! I had written her a thank-you note ahead of time, I figured maybe that would help my cause. :)Unrelated: my reception is at The Royalty House, too! Can't wait to see pictures of your big day.

Hopefully they still do it next year! I don't want the good money we put into invitations to be ruined by dirty machines. Question, does it cost extra to have them hand cancelled? We're still aways out yet, but would be nice to know in advance if I should budget for extra.

@Gwenwhyfare: No, it doesn't cost extra. The only tricky part is finding a place that will do it. :)

Good to know! I think I'm going to try the Wixom post office when it's our time to send out. The Novi one has given me grief before about dropping off large mailings for work. I would hate to know what they would do to my wedding invites.
