Holy Goodness (Birth Certificate)

So FI's birth certificate doesn't have a seal on it, and is just a copy.  So I went online to find out where to get a new one and they are $46!  I didn't know they were going to be that much and I for sure don't want to wait to get the marriage license and they tell me I can't use the copy he has.  Doesn't it figure the last minute stuff is going to cost a LOT!  Bummer.

I hear you there...I had to do the same thing for FI/DH b/c he said he lost his. 2 days after I pay for a new one online, his mom finds his. Seriously these vital records people are right up there with USPS on my shiiitlist!

Wow, thats a lot.  We had to get DH a new one a couple years ago when he applied for a passport & I swear it was less than that.  Does your FI have a passport?  I think that that works most places.

    Ugh that is awful :(

$46 sounds awfully steep, they're usually like $10-$20. Was he born in MI?

Yea he was...I knew it would cost money, but I thought $46 was pretty crazy.  I was thinking more like $20 too!

I suppose it could be out of date, but I just checked on the michigan.gov website and it says $26 (with an additional $10 for rush)  I just want to make sure you're going through a credible source since you're on kind of a time crunch.

I don't know what his schedule is like, but depending on where he was born, he can go to the city's office and get it in person the same day with no rush fees . If he was born in Detroit he has to go downtown.

Ok, good news...I just spoke with the Oakland County Clerk and it's only $15.  I went directly to the Michigan department of records and that's the one that was saying $46...way to try and rip us off Michigan!
