Makeup and Carry-on Air Luggage

I'm flying in a few days (Mom's birthday so reunion with sisters, woo-hoo!) for the first time in several years.  I've been reviewing the current TSA packing rules. ugh! Have any of you who traveled recently had any issues with your makeup and tools through the security check? I'm OK with the 3-oz. item limit. Have you had problems with plastic eye-shadow pots, brushes, lipstick tubes, etc.? It's a short trip, I'm not checking a bag.

I've flown without checking in bags (because the baggage fee is stupid), no problems with dry make-up like eye-shadow pots, brushes, lipstick tubes etc. It's the liquids you gotta worry about and they all should be in a zip-loc bag (i've gotten away with them being in a clear make-up bag though). Security has been lax lately, it just depends on which airport you go to and how busy they are.

I flew last summer and had no problem with my makeup. They are mostly concerned with liquid items. All of your items like that just have to fit into a quart sized ziplock bag that you have to take out of your carry-on when going through security. A pain, but it is for a reason. I think I put lip gloss and mascara in that bag and had the rest of makeup in a makeupbag that they don't need to check. (I don't use liquid foundation which would have to go in ziplock). HTH

I have found that the strictness also varies by airline (and maybe there's no rhyme or reason to that, given the day). I once flew out west on US Airways, and they didn't even make me take my ziploc baggie w/makeup out of my carry on. Then on the way home, Continental acted like I was trying to smuggle narcotics and looked through everything (and it wasn't like this was a random check on me). But the products you mention don't sound like they will raise a problem. Have fun! :)

DH travels every week for his job, everything just has to be in a quart size zip lock baggie & nothing liquid within that bag over 3oz. it's a stupid rule,he can bring his razor for shaving in said bag that's sharp & could be used as a weapon but not his regular size shaving cream (he has to get those little travel ones). go figure! you shouldn't have any problem with the brushes, shadows, etc...

I fly all the time.  It completely depends on the airport. If I fly through saginaw, flint, and houston, it's no problem.  Detroit and NY airports are like a hundred times worse.  At JFK, the one guy was smelling my eye shadow and made me take it out of the makeup bag and put it in the zip lock.  It was powder eye shadow!!!
