Hair Questions

I kind of feel like typically brides dye there hair lighter for their weddings. Well right now I'm pretty blond which I love but I feel like it's starting to look pretty unhealthy which I don't want I want my hair to look as healthy and shiny as possible so I'm thinking about dying it a richer carmel blond just to keep it healthy. I know it's months away but I'm trying to get my beauty routine down. I'm going to start going once a month for facials and maybe see a dermatologist since my stress has caused little "friends" to pop up. I've already ditched the hair dryer and the flat iron and have been letting it be it's natural curly wavy self but I feel like it's not enough. So is anyone else going darker for their wedding or thinking about going darker? Is anyone elses wedding months away and their already working on how there going to look? (or am I the only loony prefectionist)

Re: Hair Questions

  • For my wedding this past July, I went back to my natural color starting 6months before the wedding. I figured I should look my natural self as much as I can. I would not change up what you normally do though for hair colors because if people are not used to seeing you with a carmel color then it might not look right or it might not look like yourself. Just something to think about.

My hair is currently recovering from years of dye treatments and heat styling. It's been so hot this summer, I have kept the heat styling to a minimum, and have let most of the dye grow out of my hair (last dye job was probably over 6 months ago, to get it back to my natural shade). However, I was looking back through photos the other day and I LOVE my hair dark... it just brings out my features better than my natural mousey brown hair. I'll probably give it several more months (wedding is not for another 14 months!) and dye it just a smidge darker before the wedding. I'm in healthy hair mode for now, but I def want my hair darker for the actual day.

  • I didn't worry about how I was going to look, months in advance. I did have my hair colored the week prior, and it was "darker", but it's the color I've been going with for the past year or so. So, really, it was just about being sure my hair was freshly colored it's usual color.

I also planned out my hair cuts so I didn't get it cut right before. I have short hair, and I didn't grow it out specifically for the wedding, but I also avoided hair cuts for the month or two prior just to give a little additional length.

Otherwise, I got a mani/pedi the day before and that was it. On your wedding day, you're supposed to look like YOU, so I don't really get the whole thing with dying your hair a color you wouldn't normally do or something like that.

  • I am naturally very dark and will probably get a refreshed dye right before the wedding. I have colored my hair many time, but love my dark hair and wait it to stay that way for the wedding.  Although I think I may get streaks right after :)

My sister is a hair stylist and her response is it's good that you have taken to thought what your hair is going to look like and that you are doing something about it now.
In her professional opinion going to darker in most cases will make hair look healthier and have more shine. and backing off the blow dryer and flat iron are good too. But making sure you use the right products is always a good idea to protect your hair also. Some advice though for you is deep conditioning, especially if you think your hair is on the dry side, but more importantly is if you decide to go darker, go to a professional and talk with her/him. i've seen some scary things when people try going darker themselves. good luck and congrats on getting married. and don't worry, you're not a loony perfectionist!! i'm the same way!!
