Park reception menu

my fiance and I are getting married this summer at Kensington metro park. We're planning on having a light late lunch at around two because the ceremony is at one. The only problem is we can't figure out the menu! We considered having fried chicken and chicken tenders along with some sides catered but that gets expensive. We also considered just grilling burgers there but if you've been you know the grills are small and scarce. Also we have no idea who we could ask to cook. Does anyone have any ideas about a place that may cater lunch type food for cheap (we could pick it up ourselves that morning) in the Oakland county area or another solution to our problem? Thanks a lot!

  • I don't know what your budget is, but a lot of restaurants cater. (i.e. famous dave's, etc.)  I know most are very reasonable priced.

If you go this route though, you will probably have to provide tables and linens, drinks, glasses, utensils, plates, etc.

  • If you are actually interested in grilling burgers, find out from the park if you can bring your own grills? There are companies that rent out GIANT grills meant for big events. Just make sure you know who will be manning the grill if you go this route, someone will need to be diligently cooking/flipping/watching the grills to keep up with demand and for safety reasons.

  • I'd recommend getting in touch with gourmet food stores, ie Joe's Produce in Livonia, Randazzo's, Holiday Market in Royal Oak, Nino Salvaggio's on Hall Rd in Clinton Twp. Also check into Crank's Catering, link here: http://www.crankscatering.com/. These companies can probably do on-site BBQ, or have boxed lunches you can pick up. Most caterers will want to do the food prep themselves so there is no possibility of food poisoning. I know Crank's used to do catering at some of the Metro Parks.

If you absolutely cannot afford catering, look into things you can get at Gordon Food Service. They sell pre-packaged items for large groups.

An alternative is Chicken Shack, we used them for my son's graduation party 7 years ago. They do large aluminum pans of chicken, potatoes, sides, breads, rolls, etc.
